Mangaluru, Aug 12: Park at Mallikatte library, which was ignored by the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) for many years, is seeing some development at last. In the first phase of the development work, a compound wall is being built.
Citizens and social workers had appealed to MCC several times to develop this park, which lies in the heart of the city. Now the park is being developed at a cost of Rs 14.30 lac. In the second phase the park will be renovated completely at an estimated cost of Rs 60 lac by MUDA.
Acupuncture walking track will be constructed for walkers. Grass for ground, flower pots, benches to sit and CCTV will be installed in the second phase of development.
The citizens are urging that the public library also needs to be shifted to the new Kadri library building that was built many years ago. The present library building inside the park is dilapidated. Water is leaking inside during the rainy season. Priceless books and computers might get spoiled due to this.
