Sullia: Palemar Plans to Ban Use of Plastic in Temples

Sullia, Sep 25: Dakshina Kannada district in-charge, muzrai and environment minister, Krishna J Palemar, said that his department will soon issue strict instructions, banning use of plastic in temple premises. He said that even privately managed temples will be properly advised to follow this instruction. The minister was addressing a press conference in Subrahmanya in the taluk on Friday September 24.

“Environment and god are intertwined with each other. To get the grace of the god, we need to maintain good environment. I have jurisdiction over 43,331 temples and 48,000 industries,” he said, insisting that temples should remain centres of devotion and faith, and not business centres. He said that he is opposed to projects which destroy environment.

He held the belief that those ministers who are allotted with muzrai department either get defeated in the next election, or suffer political hibernation, as superstitious. “There was a belief that those who visit the fishing jetty and port in Mangalore get defeated. I have proved this superstition wrong by getting elected twice from Suratkal constituency. I have full faith in the gods and daivas. I will work sincerely to bring a welcome change in muzrai department,” he explained.

MLA, Angara, president of Karnataka Forest Development Corporation, S N Manmatha, zilla panchayat member, Venkat Dambekody, former president of the Lord Subrahmanya temple governing council, T V Bhat, and others were present.
