Mangaluru: 12 arrested in hunting case, one for storing explosive items illegally

Mangaluru, Aug 16: Twelve people were arrested in connection to a hunting case under Moodbidri station limits at Kodyadka Guddeyangadi.

The arrested are identified as John Menezes, Srinivas, Guruprasad, Joel Anil D’Souza, Ajay, Sanath, Harish Poojary, Mohan Gowda, Nonayya, Vinay Poojary, Ramesh and Ganesh.

The arrested accused were involved in hunting wild boars.

Four guns, one gas cylinder, 12 mobile phones, two wooden pieces, gas burner, net, two Omi vans and other equipment were seized from their possession.

1,725 kg explosives confiscated

One person was arrested for storing 1,725 kg of prohibited explosive items illegally worth Rs 1,11,140 in a commercial-cum-residential building at Bunder. The items were seized.

The arrested have been identified as Anand Gatty (50) from Mudipu.

The seized explosive items included 400 kg sulphur powder, 350 kg potassium nitrate, 50 kg barium nitrate, 395 kg potassium chlorite, 260 kg aluminium powder of different grades, 161 boxes of 22 bore 100 air pistol pellets each, 30 kg lead balls and 240 kg charcoal was seized.

“Mangaluru, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru region are very sensitive areas where there is presence of naxals. Storing huge quantity of explosive items will be a challenge for internal security. There are chances where miscreants may misuse these items,” said police commissioner N Shashi Kumar.

    In the first incident, they have not found any animal that was killed by these people. The guns they have may be licenced. Then, how it will be proved in the court that they were hunting. It is just like a case, where a woman accused a man that he came to rape her, since he possessed an equipment for raping.
