Mangaluru, Aug 17: Unknown miscreants took over to Pumpwell flyover and installed a banner on its sidewalls reading ‘Veer Savarkar Flyover Pumpwell’. Further, the same was done at Mangaluru Junction railway station where a banner saying ‘Veer Savarkar railway station’ was put up.
The incident took place late evening on Monday August 16.
Chaos prevailed August 15 as SDPI workers obstructed a chariot during Independence Day celebrations organized by Kabaka gram panchayat. The workers objected to the display of Veer Savarkar’s photo on the vehicle. In addition, the SDPI workers insisted on displaying the photo of Tipu Sultan, sources said.
In connection to the incident, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), Bajrang Dal (BD) and Hindu Jagarana Vedike (HJV) will stage protest on August 17 at 40 police stations across Dakshina Kannada condemning the act of SDPI.
It may be recalled, a banner saying ‘Veer Savarkar Flyover Pumpwell’ was installed even last year. A graffiti had ‘Bajrang Dal’ scrawled across the sidewalls of the flyover right next to the place where the banner was put up.
