Bantwal, Aug 17: A video of Bantwal town municipal council (TMC) member allegedly singing the national anthem wrongly has gone viral on the social media.

Vasu Poojary is the person who is singing the national anthem wrongly during Independence Day at Lorettopadavu. Netizens had a field day on the social media after the video went viral.

Speaking to media, Devappa Poojary, president of BJP Bantwal Mandal questioned that whether he (Vasu Poojary) has done from his conscience or listening to the members of SDPI.

The president of BJP SC Morcha Keshava Daipalya said that the person who does not know the national anthem is not fit to be a member of the municipal council.

Meanwhile, another video of Vasu Poojary singing national anthem correctly again went viral on the social media later.

It is self dignity to honour the national anthem. It is likely this man who sang either forgotten and should not have sung when he is not sure. What was the need to make a video out of it and circulate. Waste of energy and time

This guy has made a mockery of the National Anthem! If this person, doing this goof up, was from minority community, he would have been termed as an anti-national and so called "patriots" would have pounced on him?

TMC member, has saluted national flag and sang correctly first few lines of National anthem. But those who are on dais, who hoist the national flag, should know, the National Anthem 100%.

Patriot is someone who loves his/her own country. His ignorance of not knowing a national anthem is disrespectable which we all know , why don't we focus on the brighter side where he made an effort to sing , whereas all others were standing still mocking and disrespecting the most phenomenal moment of the day. Sadly the correct version of him singing the national anthem hasnt become viral since lack of appreciation has become trendy. Following the protocols on the day of independence day doesn't mean u are a real patriot , serving people sincerely and working for the betterment of the nation is what should be widely acknowledged.

Though it is very artificial, but it serves the purpose, when we classify patriotism in two categories: emotional/sentimental patriotism and practical patriotism. Emotional patriotism is confined to our national flag and the national anthem, which is on test when the country is at war or when we are celebrating the Independence Day and the Republic Day. Here the emotional/ sentimental, patriotism ends. But thereafter the most difficult test of our patriotism begins, for patriotism in action calls forth the best in man—his labour, his sweat and his daily sacrifices. A patriot is disciplined, sincere, and honest in his national and social duties. He does not cheat, deceive or betray his motherland, for her welfare is sacrosanct to him. Judged by this yardstick of patriotism, are we patriotic? Far from it. We are neither disciplined, nor sincere nor honest. We cheat, deceive, and betray the motherland most shamelessly. We divulge secrets to the enemy country for petty considerations. We accept bribes and tarnish her image. We swindle funds and deprive her poor populace their right to social justice. We engulf her into violence and destroy her property. We do every thing to discomfit her and drown her into sorrows.Considering all this we are not patriots, but patrioteers: a patrioteer is an ostentatiously and volubly a patriotic person, who makes a career of patriotism for his own benefits.~Hindustan Times~

Not knowing the National anthem by heart is not a crime. But accepting an invitation to hoist the flag and singing it on a stage with wrong words is definitely a crime. The best he could have done was to keep his mouth shut and let others sing the anthem.

Some people have bought down their standard so low that they are ready to insult their own mother in order to please a section of people, to hijack their vote bank!!! They think a section of people get pleased & smile inside, if they insult Mother land, National anthem..etc But one should not forget, all people are not so stupid to hit axe on their own head. Not sure why at first place, didn't ask those innocent kids to sing National anthem!!!

Thankfully he doesn’t belong to minority community. If it was most people would want to book him under various provisions of the law of sedition. Whether you like it or not, it’s the present day reality. Even the comments would have run into hundreds in this forum .

We don’t care about corruption, cheating, false promises by responsible political leaders, buying and selling of MLAs, bringing down elected governments and so on. All these are very very normal and acceptable to all of us. There is such hue and cry over someone singing the national anthem wrong. I feel we all believe and support hollow nationalism. If someone shouts “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” we consider him to be a patriot and wonderful human being.

Knowing national anthem doesn't make them patriot & Not knowing national anthem doesn't make them traitor. Its just a passion one has for his nation. However being the person hosting the national flag on public platform, he should be prepared for it. Singing national anthem wrongly in front of national flag is a disrespect of National Flag.

G R PRABHUJI, Mangalore, I fully agree with your most sensible comments. It makes full of sense but some people with no knowledge of the Indian National Anthem will find it hard to digest it. I was born and bought up in Mumbai by my parents along with my brother and two sisters. Our parents gave good education in Catholic schools and colleges. I still remember we had to go through the National Anthem and then we entered our respective classes.
