CM directs PWD to give priority for repairing roads damaged by rains

Bengaluru, Aug 17: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai directed the Public Works Department officials to accord priority for repairing the roads damaged by the recent heavy rains in the different parts of the State.

Reviewing the functioning of the Public Works Department in his Home Office of Krishna in Bengaluru on Tuesday, the Chief Minister pointed out that the State Government has already released Rs 300 crore for the improvement of roads in rural parts of the State and directed that the money should be utilised in the places for repairing the damaged roads.

Bommai asked the PWD officials to give priority for improvement of the roads based on the actual traffic density in each district and ensure that the roads in districts with lower traffic density should not be neglected.

The National Highway Authority has taken up road works at a cost of Rs 1000 crore.

The Chief Minister wanted the officials to expedite the land acquisition process to enable speedy execution of the road works. He promised to hold a separate meeting with the Deputy Commissioners of the districts to smoothen the process of land acquisition.

State Public Works Minister C C Patil, Public Works Department Additional Chief Secretary Dr Rajneesh Goel, Finance Department Additional Chief Secretary I S N Prasad, Chief Minister’s Principal Secretary N Manjunath Prasad, Public Works Department Secretary Dr K S Krishna Reddy and other senior officials participated in the meeting.

    Please also make sure the repairs done with tax payers’ money has a minimum guarantee period. At the moment the repairs done don’t even last a full month.
