Aug 17: DK reports 288 corona cases; Udupi adds 122, six deaths in twin districts

Mangaluru/Udupi, Aug 17: Dakshina Kannada on Tuesday, Aug 17 reported 288 new coronavirus cases and five deaths, while Udupi registered 122 new cases and one death.

As per the Dakshina Kannada district health bulletin, a total of 14,08,310 samples have been tested so far, out of which 13,02,182 have turned out to be negative.

The total number of positive cases in the district has risen to 1,06,416 out of which 3,445 are currently active.

As many as 393 patients were discharged from hospitals on Tuesday.

The district recorded five deaths due to coronavirus on Tuesday. The death toll in the district so far stands at 1,511.

The district administration has urged people to strictly continue maintaining social distance in public places and wear masks when stepping out of the house. Anyone not wearing a mask would be fined by the authority.

So far, the district administration has collected Rs 1,03,38,970 as fine in 84,931 incidents of mask violation.

Udupi

As per the district health bulletin, as many as 8,58,778 samples have been tested so far.

A total of 122 new cases were reported on Tuesday, taking the total number of cases to 72,047 out of which 1,329 are currently active.

A total of 122 patients were discharged from hospitals on Tuesday.

Out of 122 new patients, 96 are in home isolation while 26 are in Covid-designated hospitals.

Among the 122 cases, as many as 77 are symptomatic and 45 are asymptomatic.

While Udupi reported 63 new cases, Kundapur registered 32 and Karkala 25 and two cases were from out of district.

Coronavirus has claimed 434 lives in the district so far, including one on Tuesday. The person who died on Tuesday was from Kundapura.

So far, 5,86,101 people have received the first dose of vaccination, while 2,15,777 have received the second dose.

A total of 51 cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) have been reported in the district so far, out of which, 4 are currently active.

    This will continue, unless the people stop roaming around. The DC should restrict people going around. A lockdown is the solution to bend the curve. Be home be safe
