Mangaluru: Wife who killed husband, her paramour get life terms

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Aug 18: A woman who murdered her husband, and her paramour have been awarded life term imprisonment by the judge of the third additional district and sessions court here. Judge of the court, Basappa Balappa Jakati, found Ashwini alias Mamata from Moodbidri Kukkudakatte Moodukonaje, and Anand Mera from the same village, guilty of the charges levelled against them. The person who lost his life was Jayaraj. The judgement was delivered on Tuesday August 17.

Jayaraj, a native of Peramogaru in Kedila village, Bantwal taluk, used to work in Mangaluru. His marriage with Ashwini was solemnised in the year 2014. Ashwini became pregnant and went to her parental home for delivery in 2015. She gave birth to a female baby on August 6, 2016 there.

As Ashwini maintained relationship with Anand Mera from her hometown even after her marriage, differences arose between her and her husband. On September 13, 2016, Ashwni, who was still in her parental home, had cleverly planned to see that Jayaraj visited her that day. She then joined Anand Mera in eliminating her husband. The body of her husband was stuffed into a gunny bag and hidden near a school compound on the backside of her home. They also sprinkled chemicals on the body. To hoodwink the police, Ashwini filed a missing complaint about her husband.

Anand Mera, after the murder, made an attempt to project as if Jayaraj had been kidnapped by someone, with the support of two others, Sripati and Dhanapati. They called Jayaraj's mother by using Jayaraj's mobile SIM to inform her that they had kidnapped Jayaraj as he was to pay Rs 62,000 to them and that he would be released after he works for them and earns Rs 62,000.

Moodbidri police inspector, Ramachandra Nayak, who unearthed the plans during investigation, filed charge sheets in the court. The judge who conducted the hearing, awarded life terms to both and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 each. For failure to pay the fine they have to undergo two additional months inside jail. For the destruction of evidence, they have been fined Rs 2,000. Rs 10,000 has been ordered to be disbursed to Jayaraj's mother. The judge also instructed the district legal services authority to pay suitable compensation to the daughter of Jayaraj.

Narayan Sherigar, public prosecutor, had represented the prosecution in the case.

Good verdict.....please keep them in seperate jails in different states....Life lomg they should repent for doing such heinous act. When she was in parental house, why she wanted to kill her husband? Stupid lady as well as paramour....If she was unhappy with her husband shoukd have divorced him and married her bf....Disgusting 🙄

In the other article Man kills wife (reason unknown) this incident wife plots to eliminate(d) husband and wanted to have fun with paramour! Man or woman both are born with weaknesses ( 40:60 equation does not help) Temptations need to be controlled and trust/honesty should prevail. who tempted Adam to eat forbidden apple ???

Is it only me who feels that compensation amount is meagre at first? But then again if I really think hard, maybe it is done so that people don't intentionally murder each other for compensation and yes, there are people like that.

Women should be saved from life imprisonment! So postpone your marriage until your girlfriend becomes 40 years of age. After that there will be no paramour!

This is not the justice.. Long six years passed to get the judgement in the lower court.. This judgement from district magistrate court can be challenged in higher courts. I am confused about AM's in your comment.. May be you are thinking of 8 PM?
