Mangalore, Sep 29: Police commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh has urged the citizens and media in particular to avoid spreading rumours in the backdrop of Ayodhya verdict scheduled to be out on Thursday September 30 and thereby help maintain peace in the district.
He was addressing presspersons at his office on Wednesday September 29. Singh while ensuring that everything in department's capacity to maintain peace will be done, he sought media's co-operation by sharing any information they received or will receive with the police department before publishing or telecasting news. He also urged the public and mediapersons to contact 100 or 2220800 to clarify on any
rumours.
Singh said that as per the new decision the prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code will be clamped in the city from 6:00 pm on Wednesday September 29, to 6:00am on October 1. while, the liquor ban will remain imposed from Wednesday September 29, 6.00 pm to Saturday October 2, 6.00 am.
He reiterated that senders of provocative messages will be punished as per centre's ruling adding that the department will send text messages to all mobile users urging them to maintain peace and exercise
restraint in the district on the verdict day.
The commissioner further said that the team of 1500 KSRPs, DR officials, Home Guards, and police officers that were deployed for September 24 remains to maintain law and order in the following days.
A total of 100 police vehicles have been kept ready to deal with emergencies. The department might also seek western range police's help if required.
Orders for Govt Servants and Liquor Ban
In the wake of scheduled verdict on Ayodhya issue on Thursday September 30, deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj through an order the officials of all the district level and taluk level under the state government departments have been asked to co-operate being present at the office from Wednesday September 29 to Tuesday October 5 at the work place. If at all for emergent purposes they have to avail leave or be away from the work place have been asked to take prior permission from the deputy commissioner.
As far as liquor ban is concerned, under the jurisdiction of superintendent of police, the ban will remain imposed from Wednesday September 29, 6.00 am to Friday October 1 midnight, while as per orders of deputy commissioner (excise) the ban remains imposed from Wednesday September 29 6.00 am to Thursday September 30 midnight. Deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj under section 21 (1) of the Excise Act 1965 has declared Thursday September 30, 6.00 pm to Saturday October 2 midnight as dry day. The hotels, restaurants, five star hotels and clubs among others have also been restricted from selling liquor on the days.
