Lokayukta Apprehends Influencing of Witnesses in KIADB Case

Bangalore, Oct 1 (PTI):
Lokayukta Santosh Hegde on Friday October 1 apprehended that witnesses may be ''influenced''and ''threatened'' in the KIADB case in connection with which state minister Katta Subramanya Naidu's corporator son Jagdish Katta was arrested.

"We apprehend the witnesses might be influenced or threatened," Hegde told reporters here while giving details that led to yesterday's arrest of Jagdish for trying to influence a witness in a case pertaining to irregularities in payment of compensation to land owners by Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB).

The Lokayukta, he said, would try to overcome the apprehension by recording the statements of the witnesses in front of a magistrate and protecting the witnesses.

On the next course of action following the arrest, he said it would try and defend its case and would object granting of bail to Jagdish.

To a query whether the Lokayukta faced any political pressure over the case, he said, "no".According to him, the scam as of now was estimated to be around Rs 75 crore-Rs 100 crore.

The minister's wife had bought 13 acres of land for nine lakh, which the KIADB acquired for four crore, while Jagdish had bought around one half acre of land for a paltry sum, which was acquired by KIADB for over Rs 40 lakh, he said.

Hegde said the scam involved forging of documents and selling it to 'powerful' persons who in turn sold it to KIADB, paying compensation to bogus owners and acquiring land that had not been notified for the same.

The sleuths would interrogate other officials and persons if and when required. The focus of investigation would also be the middle men and other beneficiaries, including political beneficiaries of the compensation paid out by KIADB.

Giving details he said the complainant Ramanjanappa had informed the Lokayukta that he had received calls of threats and offering gratification not to cooperate in the KIADB case on September 28 in which Jagdish was involved. All these calls had been recorded by the complainant.

Earlier the complainant was asked to meet in the office of a company and later to come and collect the amount of Rs one lakh from the minister's personal residence, which he did after alerting the Lokayukta about the same.

He said the Lokayukta has slapped charges for trying to destroy evidence against him and his family and offering a bribe which was an offence, he said.

KIADB had acquired land for an SEZ floated by Itaska Software and US firm United Telecom. Of the 325 acres acquired, 13 acres belongs to Katta's wife and few acres to other members of the family.

One M H Soni claimed a compensation of over Rs 2 crore for a plot of land and gave Naidu's residential address as address proof. The original owner of the land however contested the claim, leading to the probe.

Lokayukta's apprehension is geniune on the issue. It is a grave laps in resposibility and accountability of the minister that he still adores the ministrial chair with out any fear or shame. To investigate this scandal 'DOOD KA DOOD PAANI KA PAANI'Katta has to tender his resignation ASAP.BUT the precedent of tainted minister or MLA in BJP govt is not like that !!! A few lakhs corruption in Medical non teaching staff recruitment rolled the head of R.Gowda then certainly question arises about Katta , having 75-100 crores scandal not rolling KATTA's chair????

KIADB is a front organization which is being used by all political parties to make quick money. The modus operandi is very simple. A private company will initially identify the land where in it wants to set up the facility or factory. For simplicity let’s say that the market price of the identified land is Rs. 50 lakhs per acre. Now this business house will approach the KIADB for the land and immediately Politian’s will jump in. They cut a deal with the businessmen where in they take the responsibility to acquire the land and pass it on to the business house.

KIADB will acquire the land form poor farmers and unsuspecting villagers at Rs. 15 lakhs to 20 lakhs per acre. After some minor infrastructure upgrades KIADB sells the land to these business houses at Rs. 25 lakhs to 35 lakhs and nets the neat profits. The saga does not end her. To get the land KIADB and Politian’s will cut a deal where in Rs. 10 lakh per acre is being paid to them separately. For the business house it is still profitable deal as it gets the land at Rs. 45 lakhs per acre instead of the Rs. 50 lakhs. This is for illustration only and this is happening on a large scale in Bangalore and Mangalore.

Same as the thought to legalise gambling/betting in cricket, bribery, corruption, should also be leagalised, so the powerful Indians like those mentioned by Elias can work legally, and corruption and bribery could be eliminated as being evils of the society

Mr. Hegde is 100% good person. But one thing we must remember that he took his resignation back beacuse of Mr. Advani and Mr.Hegde comments was "Mr.Advani like my father". So if Mr.Advani or any other person who is close to Mr.Hegde ask not to take any action, what will happen? Indian politicians are like Prostitutes.....Hope and Pray that Mr. Hegde will firm and right action against the culprits and hope he is ready to give his life. Let us all stand with him and support Mr. Hegde to do the right job and save Karnataka from STUPID Political leaders.

Justice Santhosh Hegde had decided to quit but has remained back after much persuasion. He is forthright, honest and fair to all. He is loved by the honest people and hated by criminals. It is expedient that he be allowed to do his task without any hurdles. If he apprehends influencing of the witnesses, the Government should step and ensure that he be allowed to do his job effectively. Let JUSTICE PREVAIL AT ALL COSTS and indeed with Santhosh one can expect full justice without any reservation.

Kudos to you Santhosh. May your bred increase.

Rich and powerful has no law to follow bcoz they write the law.poor people are workers and labourers rich and politicians are the bosses#landlords. there is no difference b`tween kings and present politicians and babus.they are there to become rich and the poor people work for salaries to remain and keep them alive. Indian citizen is equal as per Indian constitution. It is only in the constitution.not outside the constitution.and not in practical. poor man is taken for a ride,no information from the govt he gets and if finds he ends up with gullible agents.
