Modi’s monetisation of assets is loot of tax payers’ money: Sachin Pilot

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network

Bengaluru, Sep 1: Former Union Minister Sachin Pilot strongly condemned the Narendra Modi regime’s plans for earning Rs 6 lakh crore revenue through monetisation of key public assets and dubbed it as ‘loot of tax payers hard earned money’.

Pilot, who visited the State Congress Bhavan and met Karnataka Pradesh Committee President D K Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Wednesday, said the Congress party has vehemently opposed the Modi regime’s plans for monetisation of national assets.

The monetisation of key public assets such as national highways, gas pipelines, food warehouses and buffer stocks, telecommunication networks, ports, airports, national stadia and railways was loot of the money paid by the citizens in the form of taxes over the last six decades.

Congress party is not opposed to attracting investments, he said and pointed out that the Dr Manmohan Singh had laid out plans and opened the gates for investments by liberalising the economy as Finance Minister in 1991. The BJP and its sister organisations including Swadeshi Jagaran Manch had opposed the liberalisation, Pilot reminded.

The Central Congress leader said now the Prime Minister and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman claim that the monetisation of public assets would help the government to get investments to the tune of Rs100 lakh crore. Who will believe such tall claims when there is no transparency in privatising public sector undertakings, he asked.

Pilot wanted to know what will happen if the assets lose their value in the next 30 years and can the valuable assets be regained. The Modi government is opening the doors to the private sector to acquire public sector assets by obtaining loans from the public sector banks, which were built by the tax payers.

Under the BJP rule, unemployment has risen to record levels during the last seven years. Poverty has increased and GDP has fallen, he said asking the government to inform the people as how many needy and deserving people have really benefitted from the Rs 20 lakh crore Covid relief package. The Central package has not helped the poorer sections and middle classes while small and medium industries had to be closed down.

The Congress leader said railways, telecom and mining exploration sectors were technology intensive sectors in which the government must invest and retain control.

Pilot lashed out the Modi government for the high prices of petrol and diesel all over the country and pointed out that the BJP leaders who took to the streets and protested when the petrol/diesel prices reached Rs 60 to 65 a litre were now silent even when the prices have crossed Rs 100 a litre for the last several days in all states. Even desi ghee is cheaper than petrol/diesel, he said.

He warned that the Congress party will continue to oppose and organise nation-wide protests against the anti-people policies of the Modi government.

How can sale of PSUs and privatization of infrastructure develop the economy has become a mystery. In a country with fast growing population and unemployment, there is greater need for more banks, not merger of existing banks; there is need for establishment of more private industries not sale of PSUs to the private sector; there’s need for more trains not sale of railways to the private entities. There is greater need for revamping of sick PSUs and also pave way for establishment of new private units.

Amortization is leasing an asset to a third party for better care and higher profit. This is like having a toll plaza in every street, which is already built and constructed with taxpayers’ money and the guys who take it on lease sets a toll booth. Earlier, toll was collected largely on highways. Now, it can be any place, as it is a govt asset.

Followers said 'Yes Sir' and voted for him again. Now he said loot is in Indian assets. Please say 'Yes Sir' and vote for him again in 2024. By then Taliban will reach India through the roads built by Modi in Afghanistan. Say 'Yes Sir' and handover the nation. End of the nation that our forefathers fought to liberate from the British.

On the contrary these public sector assets are making loss and poor taxpayer has to pay for these losses. if monetization happens, these loss making assets will start making profits and government gets lots of tax money from these profits. At least, poor tax payer money need not be used to fill up the losses. Of course, private companies make profit. Let them make. Why to feel jealous? To become private company owners is in your hands, as we know entrepreneur in India belong to all caste, creed, community and language.

Are you aware of a system that a highway is free passage after certain number of years toll is collected ?? Well, after monetisation nothing will be free. You'll keep paying the toll till you die. It's similar to everything that Modi government sells today. On the other hand you'll continue paying tax too... Enjoy man, enjoy the governance with a difference ! You should've listened befote voti g for Modi to Kejriwal's foretelling that he did say would happen if Modi government comes to power. By privatizing don’t even dream that taxes will be less. Without tax revenue govt can not run its expenses, salaries, military, space, nuclear and strategic assets. Privatization should be transparent and should be awarded to deserving company and not to its own 2 -3 chosen puppies like Rafael deal was awarded to Reliance who doesn’t know ABCD of aircrafts instead of giving it to HAL. Also employees are treated with same rights and rules as govt employees and not like slaves.

Most of the assets that was privatised are on a time based contract. Its a widely used strategy by multiple governments worldwide. The government usually loses money maintaining public infrastructure, this offsets some of the costs. Although it does have some drawbacks, its not as bad as the media makes it out to be.

FYI, even Farmer’s law are in line with sale of public assets or monitisation then why was it done in unparliamentary method and BJP’s own allies part ways from BJP and farmers are protesting over it more than 2 years since it will do injustice to thier produce and profit but govt is stubborn against repealing them. Why????……..If farmers laws are not accepted by farmers then why govt forcing on them????…….But here in Modi’s privatisation it’s taking away your rights along with your business.

I have a better solution to save from the dire economic strait BJP has put India into. Instead of selling government assets lets sell the assets of BJP Bhakts. The bhakts always lecture others on nationalism and no one can question their Deshbhakti. They are ok to pay 110 Rupees/litre of petrol and sing praises of Modiji. So humble request is to seize and auction the assets of every BJP supporter and use that money to revive the economy.
