Mangaluru, Sep 4: A Mangaluru-based teacher, in an effort to inspire and involve the students who have stayed at home because of coronavirus with the learning process, has created videos by way of dance steps combined with acting in tune with the primary school songs found in the textbooks. She has named it, 'Kali, Nali Aadu (learn, dance, play)'. By her efforts, the teacher has inspired the young primary school children by turning the learning process into an interesting, funny, and inspiring process.

The teacher involved with this effort is Manjula Janardan, Kannada teacher of Nalanda English Medium School. During the last two months, she has filmed the action and dances for selected songs of third to sixth standards and uploaded the same to YouTube channel.

Manjula has chosen three songs from each of the textbooks for the recording. She has received support from her seven students in her effort. The songs have been pictured both indoors and outdoors depending on the literary content of the songs. Currently, songs of Kannada (2nd language) of English medium division have been adapted to 'Kali-Nali' process. She plans to adapt songs of Kannada medium primary school texts into action. She also is thinking of giving a touch of acting to verses in the texts and upload videos thereto.

So far, the teaching videos are available only for LKG and UKG classes. She says that this is the first effort towards learning through dance for the primary school section.

The teacher says that teaching lessons through dances and songs makes it easier for the children to understand. When the song touches the video, the children can learn by dancing by watching the videos. The teaching and dancing have been presented in such a way that the children can easily understand them. Each of the videos are three to four minutes long. The video in which she has acted for a song has got over three thousand likes. The song has been uploaded to YouTube under the name Manjula Udupi.

So far, acting and dancing for 12 songs has been completed and six more songs are yet to be uploaded on YouTube. She uploads one video of a song per week. There was no uploading this week because of Janmastami celebrations. From next week onward, videos will be uploaded as usual.

Manjula says that she will be happy if the children for whom the videos were made, like them.
