Attractive butterfly park among development works planned for Udupi

Udupi, Sep 18: Preparations are afoot to give a fresh look to Bhujanga Park at Ajjarkad here. A master plan has been drafted to undertake various development works including an attractive butterfly park at Bhujanga Park located in the heart of the city with the joint efforts of the tourism department and municipal council.

Particular thrust is on creating a butterfly park. Planting of plants and trees which attract butterflies is the first activity that has to be undertaken. Plants which provide nectar and those which are preferred by the butterflies to lay eggs, are being groomed here. The plan is to attract about 40 varieties of butterflies. Consultations are held with those who study butterflies, apart from botanists. The officials said that the paintings of butterflies with important information about them will be displayed in the park by way of display boards.

In addition, a well-equipped outdoor gym which enables senior citizens and others to undertake exercises and physical activities will be built. Over ten exercise equipment will be installed there. The officials said that the development works of the park involving Rs 1.35 crore will be undertaken within the next two months. The children's play park has been provided with high tech touch. The tourism department has sanctioned one crore rupees for the purpose while the remaining Rs 35 lac comes from the city municipality.

MLA Raghupati Bhat said that the butterfly park will be an important part of the development activities being undertaken at Bhujanga Park. He said that the gym, water pond etc will be completed within two months and opened for the public.

    Good idea. Better, if it will be close to stadium. There should not be high rise structures on the east side of butterfly park.

    Right now, the tank in the picture is indeed from Bhujanga part. After rains, it has stagnant water with in it. Looks like the area will become a Dengue and Malaria park.

    please give timeline whenever announcing projects...just to please the public projects are announced...not a single one comes up...total jumlabazi...plastic park at ganjimatt is only in papers..
