Kaup, Sep 27: Due to fire which got ignited in Udaya Bazar in the town dealing in home appliances here on the night of Saturday September 25, goods worth over Rs 50 lac were damaged or destroyed.
The fire and smoke were noticed inside the shop at around 11 pm on Saturday. The locals thereafter conveyed information to the owner of the building. The fire brigade which came on the scene succeeded in extinguishing the flames. A primary report said that television sets, refrigerators, computers, aluminium and steel utensils and other appliances were destroyed in the fire and the estimated loss is around Rs 50 lac.
Electric short circuit is believed to have caused the tragedy. The Kaup police are investigating the incident based on a complaint filed by Udaya Bazar Kaup store manager, Ranjan N Poojary.
The shop had been shifted to a newly constructed building a few months back. Most of the items inside were charred in the fire. As the locals and the fire brigade acted before the fire assumed enormous proportions, a huge tragedy in the making was averted.
