Mumbai, Oct 19: The fourth annual general meeting (AGM) of Canara Konkani Association Borivli (Regd), was held on Sunday October 17 at 7 pm at St Francis Institute of Management and Research Hall, Mount Poinsur, S V P Road, Borivli West. The meeting started with the prayer, rendered by Matilda Lobo. Veronica Noronha explained about the objectives of the meeting in her welcome address. Chairman, Albert W D’Souza, vice chairman, George D’Souza, secretary, Charles D'Cunha and treasurer, Robert Tauro, were present at the dais.
Secretary of the association, Charles D'Cunha, read out the minutes of the previous meeting. Treasurer, Robert Tauro, presented the accounts. Godfrey Quadros introduced the children adopted for scholarship. All the four children, who are the beneficiaries of the scholarship, spoke on the occasion, thanking the association for its kind gesture. Vice chairman, George D'Souza, who is the founder president of the association, explained about how the association came to be formed. Chairman, Albert W D’Souza, explained the advantages of coming together as a community in an organized manner. He also informed that there are 12,000 Konkani-speaking people in IC Colony Borivli, and that so far, only 812 persons have become members of the association. He set a membership target of 1,200 for the association in the coming year, which is equivalent to 10% of the population here.
Albert also released a CD of Konkani Hymns, titled ‘Jezu, Tum Mhozo Ray’, by Fr Edward Olivera, on this occasion. Veronica Noronha compered the entire programme beautifully, and proposed vote of thanks. Sr Leena said grace before meals. A fellowship meal was served to all.
