Udupi, Sep 29: “In religious point of view, there is a mention that one will be mature at the age of 8. Later, Sage Aani Mandaviya extended it up to 13 years. There is a mention about this in Mahabharata. One will be minor till the age of 13 years, later he will be considered as mature as religious point of view. Thus, the successor appointed at Shiroor Math, in the religious point of view cannot be considered as 'Bala Saniyasi'," said Pejawar Math seer Vishwaprasannatheertha Swamiji.

He was speaking to media persons on Wednesday September 29.

Speaking on cattle theft, Swamiji said, “Stringent law should be enforced to curtail cattle theft. If cattle are stolen from the sheds of people who depend on them for their livelihood by threatening using lethal weapons, how can a common man lead a life in an independent society?

“In this regard, if a case is registered at the police station, it will gain communal colour. It is a very tough situation. Such things should be eradicated from society.

“As per the information provided by the tahsildar, excluding Karkala, in Udupi there is 2,800 acres of 'Gomala’ land. The Gomala land was created during pre-Independence. The land was reserved during the British regime. Later during post-Independence, it is declining. The government is willing to open Gaushala in the district and taluk levels along with people's cooperation. There is a necessity of land to grow fodder for cattle. As domestication of cattle have been reduced, the fertile Gomala lands are being bought by others. To retain the Gomala land, cattle lovers will request the government through the deputy commissioner. The government should take essential measures after studying the necessity,” the Swamiji added.
