Mangaluru, Oct 2: Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) central council, diocese of Mangalore in collaboration with Rotaract District DRR 3181 and JCI Mangalore Inspire had organised ‘Seas the Day’- A beach clean-up drive at Panambur beach on Saturday October 2.
Jeeth Milan Roche, environmentalist and the activist of National Environment Care Foundation (NECF) was the president of the programme. The other dignitaries such as Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza, director, ICYM Mangalore diocese, Jaison Lawrence Crasta, president, ICYM Mangalore diocese, Darrel Steevan D’Souza, president of Rotaract District DRR 3181, Sarika Poojary, president of JCI Mangalore Inspire, Nishan N, president of Rotaract Mangalore city, Jaison Leroy Pereira, president ICYM Karnataka region, trainer Mixed Martial Arts- Atom Fitness Club, Kaushik Boloor were present for the programme.
Jaison Lawrence Crasta welcomed the gathering. Jeeth Milan Roche addressed the participants of the clean up drive on the impact of human influence on nature and also emphasized on certain facts that left the participants awestruck and created a spark in the minds of the participants regarding the need to save nature and how humans being the most dominant creatures on the planet earth have abused mother nature and how mother nature is losing her glory and also highlighted how we humans are cleaning our own mess. It is us who have created the mess and its us who are supposed to clean it.
Thereafter the programme began with a motto of being a wise man and not considering ocean as a garbage can. Around 70 people from various parts of the city took part in this noble drive and cleaned the surrounding. After about one hour of cleaning the surrounding, Kaushik Boloor took up a practical session on Mixed Martial Arts and emphasized the need to learn a few self defence techniques in order to be prepared in times of danger. He explained it in a very simple way that anyone could understand it easily. Indeed it was a quite meaningful session. Later on Gavin Rodrigues, Dance Plus 3 fame (Nostalgia) and his team members took up a session on Zumba. They actively involved all the participants of the drive into it and added a refreshing vibe into the mind and body of the exhausted participants. All the participants thoroughly enjoyed the whole event. Blairil Vishma D’Cunha general secretary ICYM Mangalore diocese compered the programme. All the guests were given the token of gratitude as an memoir of this event by Fr Ashwin Lohith Cardoza and Jaison Lawrence Crasta.
