Udupi, Oct 6: Malpe beach here has been witnessing several incidents in which tourists ignore warnings and try to swim in the sea. Often they put their lives into danger. In one such incident which happened on Tuesday October 5, a tourist drowned in the sea while four others were rescued.

Akhter (23), who was a resident of Vinod Nagar, Tumakuru and a mechanic by profession, lost his life. Mohammed Pasha and Ibrahim, who too faced danger to their lives, were rescued.

An eight-member team of tourists from Tumakuru had arrived at Malpe Beach in the afternoon. At about 2.30 pm, the team members were swimming when three were dragged away by the waves. Immediately, the team of lifeguards used jet skis and saved two. Akhter however had gone missing and his lifeless body was recovered after some time.

At about 11 am on Tuesday, two youngsters from Hassan were saved by the lifeguards. On Tuesday, the sea was tumultuous and the visitors were repeatedly warned not to enter the sea but some continued to invite danger by going into the sea by escaping our attention, said one of the lifeguards. On Wednesday, because of the new moon day, the water pressure will be high in the sea and entering the sea and swimming except for those who take holy bath as per customs have been banned, the concerned said.

My suggestion to the govenment: Why not a making of boudary within the sea , in certain area only where people are taking bath ., so that behond this people can not cross due to strong waves, people can enjoy the sea bath within that bounday , this is possible where there is a will there is a way ,so that many lives can be saved .

Gatta people coming here getting drunk & violating safety norms thereby providing a chance to govt to ban tourist destinations. So many beautiful tourist spots near kudremukh strech has been prohibited , Jog falls has to viewed from long distance after a suicide of couples, Gokarna beach swimming is banned. So many beautiful locations are banned from visiting. Good job by govt I hope all beaches in DK should be strictly forbidden from close range.. only then people will realise. the amount of trash & plastics they throw on beach.

RIP. kudos to the lifeguards . They are doing a thankless job. most tourists abuse them for preventing. Dear tourists, esp not from sea area, please please please dont take the sea lightly. control your urge. read instuctions, listen to the guards. but most importantly, think twice before you dive.

One solution to this problem is if a person ignores warning and ends up drowning and then rescued by the life guards they should be fined 10,000 or more.
