Mangaluru, Oct 8: A condolence meet for former union minister an Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandes titled ‘Nenapina Angaladalli Oscaranna’ under the aegis of former MLC Ivan D’ Souza was held at SDM College of Business Management on Friday October 8.

Former chief minister and union minister Veerappa Moily said, “Oscar was a brother to everyone. We always shared a special bonding between us. We shared stage during Yakshagana performances also.

Oscar was a soft spoken leader who always worked for people and focussed on building organisation. He was not greedy for power as he accepted whatever came his way. He served the nation and did his work without expecting any publicity. Oscar never had differences with anyone because he used to hear everyone speak. Forty-one years of service is a long period to serve. Whichever position he was in, he earned it as he was a gentleman and saint in politics.

“Oscar was so dedicated that he used to forget himself which made him to neglect his health. One can learn a lot of lessons from him. We can never find a politician who is as disciplined as Oscar. His wife Blossom looked after him like a mother,” he said.

Ivan D’Souza said, “Oscar Fernandes was a sincere member of the parliament. Oscar died at the age of 80 which meant that 50 percent of his age was spent serving the nation and working for people.”

Former MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik said, “When we looked at Oscar Fernandes, we used to get a brotherly feeling. We should walk in his footsteps as he was a very good leader known for his discipline.”

Oscaranna was a politician who transcended all limits of politics/caste/culture and other restrictions. He was close to Udupi matt, pejawar thirta swamiji, he was also close to his church and to him our local culture was deeply close to his heart. I am proud to say he was loved by all regardless of caste/creed and even today he is a good example to al politicians across the aisle. With his discipline and big heart he won one and all. He is a true son of the soil and a proud Tuluva/Kannadiga/Konkani & a bharatiya. May he take his next birth in our land and serve his nation.
