MDMK leader Easwaran quits over Vaiko's son getting party post


Chennai, Oct 21 (IANS): MDMK youth wing Secretary V. Easwaran on Thursday announced his resignation from the party to protest appointment of Durai Vaiko, son of the founder leader, Vaiko, as the party HeadquartersSsecretary.

Easwaran, in a Facebook post, said that he was quitting the party "as contradictions had begun to arise from the general mentality in the party" and his actions. In such circumstances, it was not good for him or the party, to continue in the MDMK, he said.

He said that he is opposed to the anointment of Vaiko's son Durai Vaiko as the Headquarters Secretary of the party and said that it was coming back of dynastic politics.

"Has Vaiko not been able to able to cultivate a single leader to lead the party in all these years," he asked.

Easwaran said that for the past 28 years he has been conducting major agitations for the party in Coimbatore district. He also announced the floating of a non-political outfit Marumalarchi Makkal Iyyakam which would be for "cleansing politics".

He said that the non-political outfit would be launched in a week and added that he has yet to submit a formal resignation to the party but has conveyed his decision to all the senior leaders.
