Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Oct 27: The Lokayukta, which has registered a suo motu complaint against Dakshina Kannada (DK) district deputy commissioner (DC), has served notices to the deputy commissioner and several other officials. It has taken serious view of the fact that effluents from the industrial area at Jokatte are flowing into the rivulet and River Phalguni.

The Lokayukta has taken the issue of waste reaching the sources of freshwater and polluting it seriously. It has asked the deputy commissioner, city corporation commissioner, member secretary of pollution control board, Mangaluru tahsildar, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board senior environment officer, and managing director of a factory to file a report before November 2 containing a report on the current situation and steps taken to control the pollution.

Lokayukta Justice P Vishwanath Shetty in his 23 page notice, has expressed deep concern about the environment pollution. He has mentioned in the notice about a Supreme Court verdict that has said that it is the duty of the state and the officials to stop environmental pollution.

DC means he has to watch each and every one activities in the district. Now the smart city projects spoiled the original system of Mangalore, what action he has taken?? He can't shieft the service bus stand to Pumpwell, see the condition of our central market, see the road concrete work, below standard. He must take action immediately. He must question our representatives. DC office is busy with Corona virus figures only. No other work. DC job is not so easy.

Tye effluents are being released by MRPL and many complaints have been made by activists and people before to DC,he turned a blind eye and that's why. With great powers come great responsibilities as well, not just sitting and eating tax payers money and being politicians hand puppet. To make him realise that is why he also has got the notice.

Good job Lokayuktha on raising the issue. I have personally witnessed how polluted the water has turned due to untreated effluents being discharged. Also couple of persons are occupied with fish cage farming in Kulur area which was recently innaugrated by a union minister in the presence of other officials.Definitely polluting the food chain of people consuming this fish growing in these toxic waters.
