Mangalore, Nov 8:
Possibilities of setting up an air cargo complex at the Mangalore Airport were discussed at a meeting of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) stakeholders here on Monday November 8.

G G Mohandas Prabhu, president of KCCI, stressed on the need for an air cargo complex stating that a study conducted in this regard showed that goods from Mangalore have good potential oversees, especially in the Gulf countries. He urged the setting up of the complex within a month's time.

The air traffic movement has seen tremendous growth in the recent years, thus increasing the need for the cargo complex which will lead to further growth of the export sector too, he added. The authorities concerned will be notified in this regard and the complex will be set up after completing the necessary formalities, he informed.

M R Vasudeva, director of Mangalore Airport who was present on the occasion said that once established, handling of the cargo complex will not be a problem as it will be separate from airport functioning, but some customs formalities are to be met with the co-ordination of the regulating authority, airlines and cargo users, he opined.

Infrastructure required for the complex can be made available within a short span of time, he added. He also expressed his apprehension over the fact that if the process were to get delayed at Mangalore airport, the opportunity may knock the door of Kannur airport which will soon be operational.

Officers from various airline companies took part in the meeting and consented to offer reasonable prices for the project.

Various issues related to barriers associated with the establishment of the cargo complex were discussed in the meeting.

Vice-president Latha R Kini, honorary secretaries B Chandrakanth Rao and Mohammed Ameen and others were present.

If the Aircargo complex is set up in Mangaluru,it will be great help for export/import trade. As you told,if not started urgently,we will lose this opportunity once again to Kerala state.Kerala people use every trick to their benefit.Likewise jobs in Konkan railway, recent contracts of tree cutting in highways, smuggling of our livestock, usurping business in Mangaluru, name boards in malayalam are some examples. As you know, except tourism there are no industries in kerala which prompts them to grab opportunities in our state. I think most of the flats in Mangaluru are occupied by kerala people as the land and flats are too costly in their state. There is already a step mother treatment to job seekers due to non- publication of advertisements in kannada language. Also,i don't understand why even govt tenders are not published in kannada news papers.Dear kannadigas and particularly MANGOLOREANS AT LEAST WAKE-UP NOW and don't fall into kerala mayajal.

Many thanks for KANARA CHAMBER OF OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY & Mangalore Airport Authorities. It is a high time and absolutely required for the development of import and export sector in Managalore and around. Just see next door Kerala, the amount of shipments fresh vegetables, Meat,Flowers,Spices,Electricals etc., coming into Middle East and onward to other neighbouring countries is tremendous. Mangalore can grab this chance via Dubai initially.
Our Mangalore airport was opened for international flights in Oct,2006 but we are moving in tortoise speed, swift action to be taken immediately. Once customs dept is open for this, then automatically air cargo business will flourish.

Agree with KCCI demands. Request Daijiworld publish/get access to the Study conducted for the Cargo Complex so that major stakeholders that is common people can know more about the employment possibilities and additional revenues which it can generate over the years. It is also good if KCCI give access to this report to potential players from logistics industry so that they can explore the investment opportunities.
