Bengaluru, Nov 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to repeal the 3 farm laws, which were being opposed by farmers by staging dharna on the roads outside Delhi’s border for almost a year now, is a victory of farmers, said KPCC Chief D K Shivakumar on Friday.
“The Union government has surrendered before the combined might of the farmers by announcing its decision to repeal the 3 farm laws. The decision to withdraw the three black laws is a historical victory of the farmers,’’ Shivakumar said in a statement issued in Delhi.

The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President, who is in Delhi, said the Congress party had opposed the three farm laws passed in parliament without any discussion and opposed tooth and nail by the farmers.
The farmers had been protesting against the laws demanding their unconditional withdrawal as the laws sought to destroy the agricultural produce marketing system and were against the minimum support prices for the farm produce. The laws also sought to allow private sector companies in the farm sector without any guarantees to the farmers. The farmers had been opposing the three black laws and had steadfastly refused to yield, Shivakumar said.
The KPCC Chief said the Union government as well as the BJP ruled States had refused to yield and had even used force by misusing the official machinery, especially the police. Over 600 farmers had lost their lives in the anti-farm laws agitation, he said.
Shivakumar said the colonial rulers, British, had to leave the country by their atrocities and use of brute force against farmers and the people of India and now the BJP also has learnt its lesson.
“The farmers who opposed the anti-farmer laws had fought like true soldiers and were ready to make any sacrifices. This is a victory of the farmers and the people against the authoritarian policies of the Modi regime,’’ he said and demanded that the Union government should not take any unilateral decisions pertaining to farmers and must consult their representatives first in the larger interests of the nation.
The KPCC Chief paid homage to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by paying floral tributes at the memorial in Delhi at Shakti Sthal on her birthday.
