Madikeri, Nov 20: Another case of moral policing has emerged from Kodagu district. In this case, a gang created a hubbub on the issue of burqa after which the police station was approached.
The incident happened in Somwarpet taluk in Kodagu district. It is said that over 40 persons belonging to an organization assaulted girls from another faith. The incident happened in KRC Circle, Shanivarasanthe on Thursday November 18 evening. Now the police reportedly have registered a case under the provisions of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Two persons have been arrested by the police.
A gang of over 40 persons belonging to an organization had attacked first PU students of Sacred Heart School, Shanivarasanthe, at about 4.15 pm on Thursday. The father of one of the aggrieved girls said that his daughter and her friend came under attack from some boys belonging to the Sangh Parivar. "My daughter had attended her college classes on Thursday morning. Before attending classes they have to remove their burqas. My daughter had removed her burqa and handed over the same to a Christian girl of the same college. The Christian girl had not attended the college on Thursday. Therefore, her friend was waiting to return the burqa to her in the evening near the college. But when the burqa was being returned, over 40 goondas attacked my daughter and her friend. The girls were locked up, beaten up, abused and assaulted," he claimed.
The girl's burqa was torn and her back has scratch marks. The girls were admitted into a hospital at Kodlipet," he explained. A video clip of the incident has become viral in social media. The families of the girls have filed first information report in the police station. Shanivarsanthe police have filed the report under the POCSO Act.
Shanivarsanthe police sub inspector Parashiva Murthy, giving information, said that two persons, Prajwal and Kaushik from Shanivarasanthe have been arrested. He said CCTV footage is being verified for making more arrests.
