Mangaluru: Set for closure, Surathkal toll gate term extended again

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Nov 20: Surathkal toll gate had been set up near NITK by violating highway rules. There have been repeated promises to either merge or close the toll gate during the last several years. However, it is learnt that the toll gate contract has been extended by three months.

A K Construction company, with its ownership vested with some people from Uttar Pradesh, has got contract to collect toll charges for three months.

The toll gate here faces a hell lot of problems. There are no toilets, no resting place for vehicle drivers and the new contractor has not provided uniforms to the staff.

Even though the rules say that the minimum distance between two toll gates should be 60 km, in this case, the NITK Surathkal toll gate is just 11 km away from Hejamady toll gate. This was imposed forcibly in the face of stiff resistance from the locals. Even though repeated protests were held, this toll gate, set up in 2014, continues to be operated.

What is needed is a Non-Cooperation Movement, where hundreds of vehicles should proceed to the toll gate and cross the gate without paying the toll. The FastTag should be covered so the money cannot be deducted. If people band together and do this everyday for a week, the toll gate will be removed without any problems.

With this illegal loot let them at least install street lights from Udupi to Surathkal. I guess bhakthas attributing it to nation building! Isn't there any one to question this injustice? Common man may be contributing towards suitcases changing hands! Politicians...MP / MLA's are working against peoples interest for sure!! In future people should ignore politicians when they ask for votes!

Attention ! Whatever rules we have there will be bypass rules, Can avoid any rules by using other rules. This is India. As per "Rule No. 8(2) of the National Highways Fee" they cannot set up toll plaza within 60 KMs but this will applicable only for projects which started after 2008. This is the reason how govt looting money from people.

Toll once set up takes forever to be removed. Although the excuse is to derive the cost of the road construction from its users, one wonders if the elected Governments can take credit for the road built when users pay through the nose for driving on it for years together. Won't be surprised if this toll is removed and the amount is integrated into the toll charged in the Haleangadi toll. Remember the Rs. 5 toll of panemangalore now replaced with another one after BC Road and the toll is now Rs. 25.

We deserve such injustices happening to us and our people for being blind deaf and dumb towards such things. Because our highest priorities are Hate, Caste, Religion, Cow, Dung, Moral Policing, Blind Practices etc. Sorry for our district being highly educated but still living in the past and not progressing in terms of eradicating poverty, value based education for a progressive society, affordable healthcare to all, modern infrastructures/amenities, living standards, strict and equal law and justice system to eliminate all the unlawful activities etc. Jai Hind!!!

It is difficult to believe that contract is extended without the knowledge of our MP and MLAs. The matter must be escalated to the minister of roads and highways. Who is pulling the strings behind the scene to help A K Construction Company to continue the loot must be brought into public domain.

Bro, people will gather only for communal issues and not for these type of problems because these tolls are backed up with our local politicians. Commission is been provided to them every month. Muneer katipalla had organized a protest against this toll gate but because of non cooperation by the public and support nothing happened. First of all there is no unity amongst us. Devide and rule has been is already in line. So nothing will happen. If any individual will file a PIL no wonder this person will be in trouble or finished.
