William and Kate Say 'Time was Right' to Tie the Knot

London, Nov 17 (DPA) In their first formal appearance before the media in London Tuesday, newly-engaged Prince William and Kate Middleton said they were "special" to each other and felt the time was right to get married.

The couple, both 28, will get married in London in spring or summer of next year, it was announced Tuesday. They appeared happy and relaxed speaking to journalists at St James' Palace in London just hours after the announcement.

"The timing is right now. We are very happy and I'm glad I've done it," said William.

"It seemed a natural step for both of us," said Middleton, repeatedly squeezing William's arm. She was wearing a sapphire and diamond ring that matched her electric blue dress.

Prince William confirmed that the engagement ring he gave Kate had once belonged to his mother, the late Princess Diana.

"It (the ring) was very special to me, and Kate is very special to me, so it's good that they are together," said William. "It was to make sure that my mother did not miss out on today."
