Mangaluru: Award-winning journalist, author Veena Rao speaks about her debut novel ‘Purple Lotus’

Mangaluru, Dec 3: A ‘Soulo Conversation’ was held with award-winning journalist and author, with Veena Rao, on her debut novel ‘Purple Lotus’ at Mount Pleasant on Friday December 3.

Veena Rao shared some of the inspiration for ‘Purple Lotus’ which earned her a 2021 Georgia Author of the Year finalist, a 2021 American Fiction Award, and a finalist place in the multicultural and women’s fiction categories of the 2021 International Book Awards.

Veena is also the founder, publisher, and editor-in-chief of ‘NRI Pulse’, an Atlanta-based news publication for which she has been recognized by The Limca Book of Records as the first Indian woman to edit and publish a newspaper outside India.

‘Purple Lotus’ goes back to year 2000 and is a story about a women facing domestic violence after going to the United States from India and a struggle of coming out from it. In the title ‘Purple’ stands for self awakening and ‘Lotus’ is rising above that remains stagnant.
