Mangaluru, Dec 6: Billawa Brigade will conduct a month-long sticker campaign in eight constituencies urging to rename Mangaluru airport after Tulu legendary heroes, Koti-Chennaya.

Addressing media here on Monday December 6, founder president of Billawa Brigade, Avinash Suvarna said, “Billawa Brigade along with other organizations conducted a bike rally from Kudroli temple to Mangaluru International Airport demanding to rename the airport after Koti-Chennaya last year. Soon after the rally, MLA Umanath Kotian proposed the same in the Assembly session.

“It has been a year and we have not received any answer officially from the government. We urge the approval of the proposal. It should be sent to the central government at the earliest. We have decided to conduct a sticker campaign in eight assembly constituencies demanding the renaming of Mangaluru airport after Koti-Chennaya. After a month of the campaign, public convention will be held demanding the same,” he said.

General secretary Prakash Salian, Kishan Amin, Prashanth and Pawan Salian were present.

Each organization wants the airport to be named after their Guru. If we please one the other gets offended and there will be an issue .Already several names and proposals have come fw to change the name of the Airport and Railway station.so let things be as it is.

These guys will never sit an airplane all their lives but want to raise a hulla ballo for nothing. Renaming things in India is not going to drive away English language which is the official language for everything in India or the world over.

Nikleg induvay andh!! Mangalore Airport is the best name. Don’t bring your cast creed everywhere. Mangalore is versatile city! So don’t label it as it belongs to one particular cast or community...

Easiest thing to become famous locally is to call a press conference and make some demands. One guy will speak and the rest get free media photo-op. Then they can all share the published article on social media and massage their own egos. Then, list this as one of the achievements in their annual report if they have one. Today it is the airport, and tomorrow some jokers will ask for renaming Mangalore beaches and other public places in Mangalore. I have only one request to these people - do some actual work for the communities you claim to represent. Leave the naming business to government.

If any name suits to Mangalore Airport, it is only the name of Late Srinivas Mallya. He was the architect for Mangalore Airport. Religion and caste should be kept away. Religion is opium to society, It should be within the 4 walls.
