Bengaluru: Attacks against Christians - Karnataka at top in south India

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Dec 6: Karnataka has been ranked third in the country as far as the number of attacks on Christians and their places of worship in the year 2021 are concerned. The state has been placed at the top with regard to these attacks among south Indian states. As many as 32 attacks happened against this community in the state, as per a fact finding report prepared by the United Christian Forum (UCF), Association for Protection of Civil Rights, and United Against Hate.

The report was released at a programme held on Sunday by Archbishop Peter Machado.

Out of 305 incidents of attacks, 66 happened in Uttar Pradesh, 47 in Chhattisgarh and 32 in Karnataka. Tamil Nadu accounted for 12 incidents, Andhra Pradesh 5 and two in Telangana. The report may have taken into account only a small portion of the actual number of attacks as only the ones which were received by UCF helpline were recorded. Most of the cases were fuelled by the false allegations of forcible religious conversions, the report said.

The figures provided in the report contain incident which happened from January 2021 to September, in a matter of 273 days.

Your religion which divides its own followers into castes and treats its lower castes worse than animals. Until recently burnt widows on their husbands’ pyres. When someone converts to Christianity, we are all equal - no Dalits, no brahmins. Anyone can be a catholic priest or a janitor. In my religion, members fate is not defined by caste but content of their character. You should focus on your religion, convert Dalits to brahmins then criticize others.

Dear Gilbert, Since you are in the US, I presume you are not aware of the latest trends that's happening among your ilk. Following are some of the castes/sect's that Christian's in Kerala follow. I am taking Kerala as an example because that's the place where the first Christian missionary st. Thomas supposedly landed. The knanaya Catholics, Latin Chrisitians, Roman Catholics, Syrian Catholics, Marthoma, Nadar's, Protestants, Dalit Christians, Jacobites, Pentecostal Chrisitians, Orthodox, Marthomite, Jehovah's witnesses, etc....the list is long. Members of each caste strictly do not go to the churches run by the opposite caste. Please get your house in order first, before you preach others. A Dalit Christian was killed last year by his father-in-law because he was a Roman catholic, supposedly a higher caste. You just have to Google to see the type of atrocities done by upper caste Chrisitians on the lower caste in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Your folks will put the supposedly casteist majority to shame. There is an old proverb, I am sure you have heard about it. "People who live in glass houses, should not throw stone at other's".

@Sanath Bhandari That's very untrue, and deliberately misleading. The names that you have listed are not castes, they are denominations. People in those denominations don't belong to them by birth. Also, it is very much possible to move from one denomination to the other. Your disingenuity is self-apparent.

Why in a civilized democratic country, people on the basis of religion should be attacked? Be it, Backward castes, Muslims or Christians, why? Religious propagation, permitted as per law, like advertisement of products and services, all are doing through out the world, including Majority community. Why then Christians alone targetted? Just because they are Minority?

Religious violence increased since 2014 after BJP came to power , Mainely due to supporting terror and bigotory organizations like Abhinav Bharat, Ramasene ,BD, RSS and so on...............

Karnataka is the laborotary of the BJP/RSS in South India for indulging in Divisive politics (Hate Politics) to reap electrol dividents. All these attacks are carried our by the fringe elements of the BJP/RSS sponsored and encouraged by the BJP/RSS. If they want to convert a progressive state like Karnataka into the UP of South India they are most Welcome. Harassing and intimidating a small peaceful, law abiding christian population by such strong arm tactics to say that Might is right and raise the Bogie of Conversions does not augur well for the future of our state.

Christians we are strong in spirit and Jesus thought us to forgive the enemy. Now you know what Who is your enemies are. All they studied in your schools, treating thier family in your hospitals and finally turned like enemies. It is a shame of those eat in the plate and finally shit in the same plate. Don’t worry about those culprits do good to them and continue to serve them like Jesus. Finally Christians be blessed by almighty. This world is full of evil till the end of this earth. God bless every suffering Christians who is a living example of Christ. Govt can destroy us but someone else will do the same to them. It is a matter of time. Just continue your best to serve in Jesus name
