Mangaluru: 21-year-old arrested for raping woman who turned him down

Mangaluru, Dec 10 (IANS): A youth in Bajpe was arrested for allegedly raping a woman for rejecting his love proposal, police said on Friday Dcember 10.

According to police, Abubakar Siddique, 21, and the victim studied in the same college and were classmates. She had posed with him for a photograph during the farewell party in 2019.

Taking advantage of this, he started pestering her to enter a relationship. When she rejected his offer, he threatened her to make the photograph of them together viral on social media.

The woman didn't pay heed to his threats and ignored him. But, the accused had followed her when she was returning from work to her residence. After confirming that no one was at home, he barged inside and raped her.

The victim had lodged a complaint with Bajpe police station and the police have arrested the accused. Further investigation is on.

Evenif he knows no one is there ....how he can enter the house without someone opening the door for him ? Supposedly, by force he entered also, why didnt she raise an alarm or called anyone????.

Indian males are still in stone ages especially those belonging to the desert cult...so be careful girls...do not show the slighest inkling or even smile at your counterparts without any reason....they take it as wrong signal as most of the time their women will be wearing the protective cover and they do not get to see them properly nor speak to them in a social manner...this is a wake up call to all girls, especially those who do not belong to the desert cult...

Bring in the law for such cases which provides harshest of punishment. Oh wait, those laws are already prevalant in the countries where the cult you mentioned rule. And notably those countries have low rate of such crimes.

Those laws are prevalent there as you said. but so is having multiple wives and instant talaq .. here we discriminate in eating beef.. but there they want no pigs on the plate.. and only halal of other meat. basically every country has their things.. you can't adjust, don't blame the country. Eat in peace at your house

The low rate of such crimes in those countries you mention is because it is never reported. Women in those countries have no rights and would not dare to report to police about such crimes. Even in our own country, such crimes are occurring more frequently than what gets to the legal system.

The law of the land should give stronger sentences for rapists. For the female I would once again request my daughters to report anyone who bother them to the authorities, than to let matters slide till it gets out of control.

Seemingly an open n shut case, so hopefully prosecution n sentencing at the trial court will conclude within 6 months. Also its important for girls / women to not take blackmailing/threats (like making photos viral) lightly. Whoever makes such a threat reveals his criminal mind. The difficult part is our laws which will probably grant the guy bail pending prosecution for threatening / black mailing. Yet it is best to not ignore it and at the least seek help of elders and community leaders.

Salute the decision of the girl to report the matter and file a case against the victim. It becomes difficult when the criminal is from the same institution considering social stigma, but she shud not give a damn regarding such criminals. Let justice prevail at the earliest
