Kasargod, Dec 11: A police team under the leadership of Kasargod DySP P Balakrishnan Nayar arrested the brother of Sultan Diamonds & Gold jewellery staff, accused Mohammed Farooq of stealing Rs 2.88 crore worth jewellery and diamonds from the jewellery outlet.

The arrested is Imran Shafi (45), another important accused in the case. Kasargod police arrested Imran from Bengaluru. A case in this connection was registered on the basis of a police complaint lodged by Kumble resident Abdul Rafiq, director of Sultan Diamonds & Gold. Farooq had handed over the stolen jewellery and diamonds to his brother Imran and gone absconding when the police had registered the case and were investigating.

The police, who came to know about it, searched for Imran and found him in Bengaluru. Police have said that the two accused have pledged the gold in five banks and borrowed Rs 50 lac. Police have begun the process of recovering the gold and diamonds.

The police are on the lookout for main accused Mohamed Farooq. The investigation have been extended to other states. Police are investigating if Mohammed Farooq has fled abroad.

The police had seized the bank accounts of Imran Shafi earlier. Staff of the gold and jewellery section of Sultan Diamonds & Gold, Farooq had looted gold and jewellery worth Rs 2.88 crore during the last lockdown. The matter came to light during the last audit of accounts a few months ago.

    Why dont the authorities of the shop dont ask for a certificate from Police when they want to employ a person in such shops where costing millions ,thousands of Rupees things are there.?Now he fled with crores of Rupees ornaments ,now cost of him arrest too is not less.He must have either not having with him ,sold ,even he ay not tell the full truth .Let us wait how case will proceed.
