Mangaluru: Moral policing, assault on bus – Four accused arrested

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Dec 11: Police arrested four accused regarding a moral policing case on Saturday December 11.

The arrested are identified as Prakash, Ranjith, Raghavendra and Pawan. Two among them are said to be the driver and conductor of the bus the couple was travelling in.

The moral policing incident took place on Friday December 10 on a bus. A boy and a girl, studying at a private college near Vamanjoor, were travelling to Udupi on a bus. Accusing the boy of misbehaving with the girl, the conductor of the bus and a group of vigilantes travelling in the same bus assaulted the boy.

The girl was from Udupi while the boy hailed from Shivamogga.

Later, they were made to board different buses by the accused. The video of this incident has gone viral.

Police commissioner N Shashi Kumar had earlier said on Saturday that the police have taken up the assault case involving the bus conductor and others suo moto. He had also added that two persons had been arrested in connection with the case so far.

Look at the vile uneducated faces. Cannot feed their families properly but can poke their nose into other peoples business in the garb of saving religion. Everyone has a right to freedom

Do not blame others. First judge brethren from your own majority community who are advancing in raping kids, children and grown ups. Some have recently not spared even own daughter. Abandoning wife and entering brother for cheap pleasure and eating beef secretly with government quota. Never ending story !

@ Dinesh, Dubai "Who has given them the right to take law into their hands...." - undoubtedly, our elected government ! Even CM evades or avoids answering any questions on BD/moral police role and immoral activities against the citizen. BJP real colour exposed but they are quiet on the this issue.

First Moral Police is coming from Religion beleifs, then comes individuals. See the number of fatwas and rulings. i wonder what is the punishment under Sharia for freely moving with opposite sex.. If you want a free society, then remove the tenets which give punishment for mixing freely with men. Hypocrites.

Ths vigilante justice is tolerated in Pakistan. It has no place in secular India. If the Government has guts, it must ban this kind of justice and make it a criminal offence to engage in it. They make (mock) the police redundant.

Couples belonging to different religion are found kissing and doing other illegal activities inside the bus.. That was the reason why the bus people assaulted the guy.. Bus is not right place to do all the romance stuffs.. Better get some private place.

Driver and conductor of the bus should be sacked by the owners of the bus as they have assaulted the passengers of the bus and it is owners responsibility to take action on these rascals. After all do one need to get a permission from these parties who are on US terrorist list?.

Did the conductor/driver own the bus too ? Obviously not, therefore how is the owner of the bus giving his asset in the hands of such communal persons ? What if the ruckus transformed into setting fire at the bus too ? The duo should either work diligently to earn a living, or be 'hired goons' to protect a specific religion. Because they are running buses on roads built by the taxes of the public. They can't behave like owning the city/district or the state.

It seems the girls father is a right wing leader himself. So it is for my hindu brothers and parents only to realise the seriousness of this situation. Ultimately just imagine the pain and mental trauma the girl and family has to go through. We must together call out against the act of these goondas. We need to question our local mla's on their continued silence regarding moral policing. They are for the moment only obsessed with words like "internal anti forces" only.
