Bangalore: High Command Bows to CM, Not Without Bridling Him

Bangalore, Nov 25: It is learnt that Karnataka Chief Minister (CM), B S Yeddyurappa, had used all the available cards well, to be able to continue as the Chief Minister of the state. Besides bringing pressure on the party high command through the MPs and ministers to retain him, he convinced the party leadership through MP, D B Chandre Gowda, who happens to be his staunch supporter and strategist.
It is learnt that Chandre Gowda succeeded in impressing upon the paty high command not to remain stubborn in demanding Yeddyurappa’s resignation, telling them that most of the charges levelled by opposition leaders have not at all been proved, and that in some cases, all the Chief Minsiters commit mistakes when under tremendous pressure.
Yeddyurappa also told the high command that he is ready to resign the moment he is proved wrong. “I have entrusted the inquiry into the land scams during the last 16 years to judicial commission. Our party has joined hands with Shibu Soren, a known offender, in Jharkhand, and has not taken action against Vasundhara Raje Scindia from Rajasthan, although she has remained adamant over the party’s six-month-old instructions to resign. Under these circumstances, why are you bent on making me a scapegoat,” he is learnt to have argued. He convinced the top BJP leaders that a state politician had hatched a conspiracy to unseat him because of personal rivalry.
The BJP leadership on its part, while conceding to the demand of the CM to allow him to continue in his chair, has put certain conditions like keeping family members off the power corridors, making ammends in his behaviour, to behave with MLAs, ministers and party activists in a friendly manner, among others. They have told him that unless he changes his style of functioning, his survival will be difficult in the future.
They are also learnt to have told him to find out the officials guilty of leaking documents from his office, and to take steps to maintain control over his office functioning and protect confidentiality. Yeddyurappa also has been advised to ensure that he does not get involved with more scams.
