Mandya: Hindu activists raid convent alleging efforts towards religious conversions

Daijiworld Media Network - Mandya (SP)

Mandya, Dec 25: Alleging that an effort is being made to attract children towards Christianity in the name of Christmas celebrations, Hindu activists raided a convent. They objected to the Christmas celebrations there.

The allegations that have surfaced relate to Nirmala Convent in Pandavapura in this district. The activists said that the children are being forced to be present for Christmas celebrations. They said that this is done in order to get the children attracted towards Christianity. They further said that they have noticed changes in the behaviour of the children.

The activists said that the schools and colleges should be bereft of religious considerations. Accusing the convent of propagating Christianity through these celebrations they urged the school management and headmistress to display the pictures of Hindu gods if they insist that the children should celebrate Christmas.

I studied in such a school where students used to read Phrases from The Holy Bible, The Holy Bhagavad Gita and the Holy Quran during the assembly and the morning prayers. All texts taught us good things only. The institution is headed by the Nun's and until date no one alleged of conversion. Students were well disciplined. Christians were attending catechism classes and the others were having Moral Education classes. No religious disharmony and the majority students were Hindus. None of them converted till date. Humble request to the Government to concentrate more on the development rather diverting the minds of the people on unnecessary things. However, anti conversion law is in the process of its implementation. You people start working for the people. Everyday repeating the same nonsense doesn't work for long time.

This is one sided goons story which doesn’t carry any weight. BTW, it’s Christian convent not Hindu Patashala or Shaka. If students of non Christian wants to attend this convent education then it’s thier choice and no force from the convent nor any compulsion on conversion. This is the reality since 75 years and ask the students who have passed out from convents and Christian education institutions.

How can such Activists take law into their own hands based on pure slander and virtually Terrorise the Minority Sisters Congregation. When we Christians are not interfering in their affairs why should the Hindu facist interfere and harass us unnecessarily. By the way most migrants to foreign countries are Hindus. Why are they going to earn dollars if they are fearing conversion. Also the western country people should start deporting iskon , triple Sri, mata amritya etc organization back to India on fast track since they are converting many foreign Christians

Very upsetting to read and hear news nowadays. Nothing looks like we are all one . So much of bashing each other on religion, language, dress , culture, festivals . If we all shout to be Indian and buy Indian , this kind of hatred, jealousy , doubts, fear , misunderstanding , will not help us . If we are all broad minded and think only of others goodness then there is nothing to worry about.. In particular, I read the narrow outlook of NS Bhat , Kasargoad and his views. Very biased and not good. We all have studied and learnt to be good citizens studying in Christian schools. No one is forced to come or celebrate. It is a bogey to target and harass . And the pic shows that the activists are only creating a scene to come into the limelight. That’s it

If a particular faith believes in a most powerful God, then that faith will become only faith in the world, all its followers will be rich and no pain, no hunger etc. That faith does not need agents to take sword or carry rice bag to sell it in street. Such a faith simply does not exist. No faith will make anyone immortal. Live and let others live in the faith that they believe. Practice what you preach all day.

We are well into the 21st century and one should understand over the years the so-called religious celebrations are now devoid of religion. Outside place of worship events like X’mas, Diwali or Ramzan Iftar are social gatherings where members of all communities attend. Singing jingle bells is not a devotional song or a holy hymn, putting up decorations and distributing sweets have nothing to do with religion in the strict sense.

Religion is a individuals personal belief, nobody can be forced to convert, it is his-her individual wish, God created only one religion humanity, and he looks at sinless clean heart and not religion, wants all human on earth leave like brothers and sisters with love and peace. Once India was a beautiful garden of different faiths with peace and world used to respects. But to day it is slowly coming under sick, uneducated, communal BJP, RSS, BD cowards talibans by dividing citizens on the basis of religion for their selfish political gain by fooling, blackmail imaginary fear in minds of majority 80% Hindus against minority Christians, Muslims, Sikhs. If they have guts why can't they go to Kashmir and fight against the pro Pakistan terrorists. The whole world is watching and India's image is damaged. As said by ex army and navy chiefs when we face enemies in two fronts China and Pakistan it is the duty of civil government to keep these fringe elements under control or ban for damaging national unity, shame, if not controlled it is the time united nation should sanction them as terrorist organizations.

Celebrating a religious festival in school premises is ok if education department has no objection in it. But asking the students of other committees to attend the function compulsorily is wrong. Also, the activists should keep in mind that the proposed anti conversion law is not a permission for moral policing.

Mr Bhat, I am a product of Christian educational institute from class 1 to Bachelors and have done extremely well in my life. We had both Christian and non Christian students in my class. Infact, non-Christians were more than Christians. While Christian's had Religious studies (Catechism), non-Christians had compulsory Moral Science studies. All of us had to score better in this subject Vs other academic subject to apply for any scholarship! Moral studies included everything about how to be better human being with zero reference to Catholicism. I have not come across one student ever having a problem with these classes. In fact, they have become responsible good citizen of India. I bow in admiration, the quality of studies imparted by these Christian managed schools. When more than 70% of students were non-Christians, I am wondering where they are today, when they see these third rate, illiterate goons, with the backing of current BJP regime, are destroying the peace and attacking those self less schools?

I think he has a point when he says that Janma ashtami and Saraswati Pooja should also be celebrated in the school so also festivals of other religions. A one hour break should also be given for Muslim students to perform their and also their festivals performed with fervour and Biriyani. Now, this should also be followed by educational institutions run by the Temples and Mutts this I believe would bring about better inter faith relationship. Going further Govt. Offices should also display God's of other religions other than a few on the wall and could also include Godmen and Godwomen who are INSIDE or OUTSIDE.

All over the world, there are many religions. Those who are minorities in one country are majorities in other and those who are majorities in one country are minorities in other. No religion will vanish from this world by doing what it mentioned in this news, rather that religion will flourish because faithful’s will fight for their religion. It is high time citizens understand this. No country in this world succeeded by creating divisions in the society on religion grounds. Today it is between Hindu, Muslim and Christians. Going by this, days are not too far, we see fight among upper caste Hindus verses lower caste Hindus.

No issue is now an issue for fringe groups to trespass into institutions. First accusation- they propagate Christianity, it is the right bestowed by our constitution to all religions. Second why force others to participate- it is time to enjoy students never want to skip as it is diversion from their stressful studies and these days Diwali and Christmas have become universal celebrations sans religious tags. New Year too is commercial opportunity these days. Why not other religious idols or celebrations- nobody can be forced into celebrating any rituals which they don't believe in unless Taliban is the ruling dispensation. Time for majority of silent people to stop these harrassments and vote sensibly to end these illiterate hegemony forever in 21st century.

A immortal God who doesn't have a beginning and end, who created the all universe, starts, sun, moon need mortal people to save Him and His religion. If anyone from any xyz religion truly seeking God from his heart and if he is faithful in whatever he does on this earth will find Him and others not. Because God Himself allow them to deceive and believe what is not true because they don't have a desire to love the truth. We bless them and pray from them. By the way they are fulfilling the plan of Jesus Christ without their knowledge. It is written in the scripture, " Those who follow Christ will be hated by all". Revelation says many will be killed and a true follower of Christ ready to die. Amen

I am sure none of the children of those terrorists in that video are going to that school or even any school and they themselves dont look look like have seen school.. But 1 thing is sure, the children who have witnessed all this and 1 question must be irritating them? Is this Hinduism.. ? and should we follow this ? Because they know the truth.. A question to thinkers - who is initiating conversion ?

Its a govt aided school & staff is withdrawing Govt salary. So, ideologically they need to be secular in nature. 60-70 % of children in this school are Hindus. With these facts,,Why is the old principal not agreeing to celebrate Krishna Ashtami or do Saraswathi pooja? This question needs to be answered.

Dear Desmond Mandya, Go through these lines of the news - - "The activists said that the children are being forced to be present for Christmas celebrations. They said that this is done in order to get the children attracted towards Christianity." - - In the comment section, someone told that 70% of the students of this institution are Hindus. If both (news & comment) are true, the school's activity is illegal. In your comment, it sounds that those Hindus could have choosen other institutions for education. If this particular school is functioning only to serve the needs of a certain community, why do they admit children from other community? In fact, the education is a 'compulsory right' of all Indians. One shouldnot consider religion / community during educating. Actually your claim is wrong.
