Udupi: Girl students wearing Hijab denied entry to classroom

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Jan 1: Girl students were denied entry inside the classroom and were made to stand outside for wearing Hijab inside the school premises. This incident took place at the Government pre-university college for women in the city.

It is accused that six students of first and second PU are reporting to the college wearing Hijab for three days and the principal is not allowing them to enter the classrooms for the same. The girl students are urging the principal to honour their religious right and allow them to enter classes with Hijab.

The principal said that the girl students will be allowed only if they arrive at the college without wearing the Hijab as per the rules of the institution.

Campus Front of India has condemned the incident. However, Yashpal Suvarna, vice president of the college development committee said that they are with the principal and they will not allow the educational environment of the college to get spoiled.

College principal Rudregowda clarified the issues and said, “Till now there is no rule in the college of wearing Hijab for Muslim students. However, since past three days, six students out of total 60 Muslim girl students are arriving to the college wearing Hijab. So we have not allowed them to attend classes. They can attend classes if they remove the Hijab. We have called their family members and discussed the issue. They have understood and agreed to the rule.”

It is time , the schools and colleges start teaching children the basics that Almighty God , creator of the universe has nothing to do with our beard, hair, genitals. He cannot be pleased by the meters of colorful cloth around our head. He has nothing to do with what we eat or drink. God is a spirit and can be only worshiped in spirit and truth. When will our population ever gain this much basic maturity ?

I don't know exact islamic view behind wearing hijab. But I have seen the students wearing the same with prescribed uniform. As per my knowledge, even in Hindu community, girls/ladies were covering their head and face with cloth. But, such practce is considered as 'gender discrimination'.

These 6 students can be admitted in Arabian schools itself because even today's Afghanistan Regime doesn't like Soft gender to finish their schooling. These girls are luckily born here instead of Afghanistan. The Uniform prescribed by the institution is enough to enter here. They are here, not to preach their religion to Management, Staffs or other co students but to study the syllabus framed by that Education Board. If their parents insist wearing Hijabs or some other, they can start their own Institution with a permission from the concerned. Don't litter the institutions by hijabs .

It looks like the college authority has received “fatwa” from those rogue groups to ban wearing veil or hijab. Does our Constitution say wearing hijab is unlawful? Why bring dirty politics in schools and colleges and create disturbance and divide the students on religious ground? I remember how we spent our school and college days without such disturbances. There was absolutely no division based on our religion. I feel this has become a thing of the past. Today’s children are groomed to hate other children of different community. The seed of enmity is sowed in children’s mind from fake news, fake videos and hate speech. I don’t support or oppose wearing hijab but I strongly feel it’s a personal choice as long as the dress code comes under decency.

We are increasingly becoming moronic. The very temples that teach us discipline, obedience and humility are being turned into centres of intolerance. Irrespective of which religion we belong to, we are more obsessed with public expression of our religious affiliation than having a healthy civil society. We don't care about the lack of civic amenities we are entitled to as citizens of our country; we never bother to question our elected representatives on these issues. Coming to the issue; firstly, if we are to believe that they started wearing hijab since three days, why did these girls start wearing hijab now? If they had no problem attending classes without wearing hijab all these days, what happened suddenly? Where were their religious sentiments before? Educational institutions are the centres of learning, not places of religious worship. If the college authorities had barred them from wearing hijab, it would have been prudent for the students to stop wearing them immediately. Secondly, if there is rule in place barring students from public expression of their religious affiliation and if the students were wearing hijab even before, why did the college not take action earlier? With this kind of petty issues we are taking one step forward and two steps backwards. God save this country.

There is rule, which prevents anyone with more than two children from contesting elections to bodies of local self-government — panchayats, municipalities and municipal corporations; but nobody is preventing criminals from contesting election. Prestigious institutes allow it freely.. it is upto us to follow what we believe in.. there is no harm being done .. the only harm is the people who think the opposite as their heads have been corrupted.. What is secularity ? Why are the people of this country being intolerant to this extent ? They have worn the school uniform .. apart from that a person can choose to wear a pagdi, topi, veil, hijab, etc etc .. just coz your religion doesn't have it.. dont condemn others ..

Mr Harish, Swamiye sharanam ayyappa, I don't know which religion you belong to; and what so ever do not blindly compare hijab issue with shabarimala dress code. Shabarimala devotees wearing black mundu and shawl is not to from today or yesterday and not an year long/life time practice as well. Most of the stundents ask prior permission for the same in their respective institutions. If hijab was worn by muslim girls since the very beginning we could agree now as well. But in between the academics suddenly using hijab does'nt seem right -can be a conspiracy or some organisation making the girls scapegoats for their vested interest. During Our schooling and college time no one was minding to follow such things. we had good friendly relation with Girls and boys of all community. Why the need of hijab is too important NOW??? I respect their religious dress code in the public place. School uniform is mainly to fill in uniformity among students. Lets all respect that..

One foolish hypocrite once said these wise words “hypocrisy ke bhi seema hoti hein” Look at you.. shabrimala is fine but wearing a simple piece of clothing to cover the head is not!! Kids going to school surely don’t need to visit shabrimala at that tender age, they need to focus on their studies. A muslim girl wants to wear a hijab or not, a sikh boy wants to wear a turban or not, a hindu kid wants to wear tilak or not is their personal choice. Respect it. By the way its not about olden times or todays times.. its a personal choice.. what people want to wear and not wear. You know why you had so many friends of other religions, because religion was not used by politicians to get votes. People were not divided based on religions. Now the politicians who travel in a 12cr Maybach or the one who appoints his dumb son as a secretary of india’s premier sports body or the other vin diesel who just keeps changing names of villages and poets in the name of development can win election only, i repeat only by dividing this great country.

Mr Rahul, Swamiye sharanam Ayyappa. Who are you or me to decide whether a school going kid should visit Shabarimala or not. There are several reasons for the said practice. The belief is such that even small kids are made to practice the mandala vratha for the purpose best known to their care takers. But my point here is very clear. Dont compare hijab with Shabarimala attire which is occasional. From nowhere how did the hijab requirement pop out.? Assess the problem from its own angle, not by comparing. Only then you get a conclusive end. Comparing practice of one religion with other is just next to dumbness. Uniform is to uphold the uniformity among the students and to be followed strictly adhering to the regulations of institution.

Mr.Sanath, Swamiye Sharanam Aiyappa. Hijab is occasional, a piece of clothing where a girl feels a need to wear? But shabrimala is not occasional? Lol.. look at you man.. do you realise what your talking? If u are comparing going to shabrimala to going to church or mosque, u have got it wrong. Compare kids going to Vailankanni or Haj. I respect shabrimala more than u because comparing it to a piece of cloth an innocent child wearing. it is nothing but hatred thats filled inside you. I wouldnt encourage kids to miss classes and go to any of the pilgrim sites. Let the kids go to temple, church or mosque. Get your comparison right!! If u are saying kids are made to practice certain rituals best known to their care taker then y not a hijab? Even wearing hijab may be made to practice by their care takers. Whats wrong? If a little girl doesnt want to remove the hijab in absence of her parents, its clear that by her choice she is wearing it. U or someone asked, so many muslim girls why only few want to wear it? So many Hindu boys. Y only few go to shabrimala? Y is there no problem with sikh turban but problem with hijab? The word is Hatred.

I am sure you feel victorious just like the pradhan sevak, how else will he prove he is a strong leader, unfortunately china doesnt play cricket nor does it send actors to india.
