Bengaluru: Government permits private Covid care centres, fixes rates

Bengaluru, Jan 12: The state government, taking cognizance of the increasing incidences of the coronavirus pandemic in the state, has given permission to open private Covid care centres.

It may be recalled that during the second wave of the pandemic, several hotels had turned into temporary hospitals. Lodges and hotels, joining hands with private hospitals, had been converted into coronavirus treatment centres. With the advent of the third wave, the government has given permission to hotels and hospitals to open Covid care centres. It has also fixed the rates which can be collected from the people though an official order.

Per day charges for budget Covid care centres has been fixed at Rs 4,000 while three star care centres get Rs 8,000 per day. For five star centres, the rate per day has been pegged at Rs 10,000. These Covid centres have to provide treatment to coronavirus infected people as per the rules framed by the health department.

The centres have been warned against allowing infected persons without symptoms in the centres, collecting charges in excess of rates fixed by the government, and continuing treatment by retaining the patients even after they recover from the infection and warned of legal action in case of such violations.
