Ranni: Actress Jaimala Named Accused in Sabarimala Case

Ranni (Kerala), Dec 14 (IANS) The police crime branch that inquired into the controversial revelation by actress Jaimala that she touched the famed Sabarimala deity named her Tuesday as an accused in the case for violating religious sentiments.

In June 2006, the actress revealed that she had entered the temple in 1987 and touched the deity, violating the age-old temple tradition.

This revelation had created a furore in the state because according to the temple traditions, women who have attained puberty but have not reached menopause are barred from entering the temple, dedicated to Lord Ayappa.

Following this controversy, the state government appointed a Crime Branch team to probe the issue.

Speaking to IANS, an official attached to the Crime Branch office at Kottayam who wished not to be identified confirmed that the charge sheet has been filed and the actress has been named as the third accused.

The first accused in the case is astrologer P. Unnikrishnan and the second accused is his assistant Reghupathy.

The charge sheet has been filed at the Ranni First Class Judicial Court here. It says that the accused were involved in a deliberate and malicious act intended to outrage religious feelings under section 295 of the Indian Penal Code.

It was the actress herself who made this claim through a fax to the temple office when an astrological examination "deva prasnam" was going on by Unnikrishnan.

In his "deva prasnam", the astrologer had claimed there were signs that the idol had been touched by a woman.

The probe team has concluded that the entire episode was stage-managed just to strengthen the claim of Unnikrishnan.

Sabarimala temple is situated on the mountain ranges of the Western Ghats, at an altitude of 914 metres above sea level, four kilometres uphill from Pamba in Pathanamthitta district in central Kerala. It is one of the most famous Hindu pilgrim centres in India and has earned itself the tag of the Mecca for Hindus.

I completely agree with Mr. Ravi kumar. There is a reason behind every tradition and custom. They are not created just one fine morning without any meanings. Its true that girls before puberty and ladies after menopause can go to Shabarimala. Lets not have the war of words on religion and religious behaviour please.

Some more fodder for news. The CBI and police force attend to more serious matters than resolving a trifle issue like this. Ridiculous.

    Hi Shanawaz,
You are always a rebel in the bunch. Before commenting, you should know the background, why young women are barred from visiting the Shabarimale temple.
The temple is situated at the mountain and in the thick forest. In ancient times there was no proper road to reach the temple. The devotees have to walk through the jangle for about 45 KM to reach the temple. If young ladies are allowed, there will be misbehavior with them in this isolated place. Moreover, they have to fast 41 days. It is not possible to ladies because of menstrual periods. This is the reason, girls before menstrual period and ladies after stopping menstrual period are allowed. Jayamala is a liar. Its impposible to enter the Gharbhagudi and touch Ayyappa idle.

    Dear Shahnawaz
I fully agree you quote..."Like man the woman too has the irrevocable right to worhsip the Lord and nobody can take away that fundamental right from her"
But why you don't allow woman in the mosque to pray along with Men??
Most of muslim country there is different rules for women, they are not allowed to work, they are not allowed to mingle with Gents, they can't travel without men, they can't go and shop without men etc etc..

    1) God 1st created man then created woman from man's rib, okye? So woman shall worship man and man shall worship GOD. Hey hey.
    2) Young ladies from the age between 10 to 50 puberty age are not allowed into the temple but the kids before the age of 10 & ladies post 50 are allowed whose menstrual periods are stopped.
    3) Lots young male devotees are coming over there with 41 days fasting, not allowed smoking, drinking, had abstain from sex , even they must keep away from their family members. To keep the devotees ritually clean all these steps have been taken.
Jayamala has broken all rules and is in trouble now. Must be punished. God don’t make difference between men n woman, but rules has to be followed.
Same way one cannot touch the Holy sacrament at the altar in church. Non Muslims cannot enter Mecca.

No base for allegations. Its the same God who created male has too created female and made them in pairs. Both male and females are made for each other and complimentary to each other. Without female man is incomplete and vice versa. Like man the woman too has the irrevocable right to worhsip the Lord and nobody can take away that fundamental right from her. Stop this discrimination against women. Let them pray too. So those who are shouting at the peak of their voice against muslim women wearing burkha, what do u all have to say. Even in your religion there is discrimination. Why always double standards and two different yard sticks.... Hypocrisy at its height... Disgusting and Please understand that by nature our society is male dominated and nobody can change it. Even women agree that certain jobs can only be done by men. Even in decission making or risk taking or daring men always outpower women

Good work by Crime Branch. Cheats & Liars should be punished & brought under law. So do Pseudos who support such stage-managed dramas.
