Israel, Dec 23: Indian Catholic Chaplaincy of Jerusalem Patriarchate under the guidance of our Chaplain Fr Jai OFM organised two walking pilgrimages to Bethlehem as a preparation for the celebration of Christmas.
Gathered around the altar of Mary Magdalene in Holy Sepulchre, the pilgrims, comprising around 300 Catholics, began with a prayer and the reading of the Gospel. They then proceeded to seek blessings from Mons William Shomali, Auxiliary Bishop of Jerusalem.
They proceeded to Jaffa Gate and again with a prayer and the reading of the Gospel they marched like Mary and Joseph, like the Magi, who went to see the Babe in Bethlehem, the Star of Bethlehem, Jesus.
Though the 10 km walk was marred by rain, it did not hamper the spirits of the pilgrims who celebrated the Holy Mass at Bethlehem with joy, love and spirit.
After a week, starting from Tel Aviv, Herzliya and Haifa, the pilgrims went by bus to Beit Sahour, where the Angels appeared to Shepherds (known as Shepherds field). From there they walked to Bethlehem. There were about 300 people in the procession. The Eucharist Mass was offered in Konkani by Fr Praveen OFM and Fr Jai OFM, accompanied by singing, praying and thanking God for His blessings. More than 800 people participated in the Mass.
Fr Stephane OFM, the Superior of the church greeted the gathering and wished everyone well.
