Pastor arrested for attempting to convert family in Shivamogga

Shivamogga, Feb 7 (IANS): The Karnataka Police have arrested a pastor who attempted to convert a family to Christianity in Shivamogga district of the state, the police said on Monday.

The arrested person has been identified as 34-year-old Madhu, a resident of Kashipura Layout in Shivamogga. A case has been registered in the Vinobanagar police station of Shivamogga district. According to police, the accused pastor has forced a family to convert to Christianity in the pretext of curing their three-year-old child of a disease.

The three-year-old child of a resident of Bommanakatte suffered from a disease and though the family approached many doctors, they could not find a solution. Taking advantage of this fact, the pastor told the family members that religious conversion from Hindu religion to Christianity is the only solution for their problem.

The accused Madhu also allegedly asked the family to remove all images of Hindu gods from their home, and told them to carry out prayers for Jesus Christ. He had also given them religious books and asked them to follow Christianity, according to police.

The locals have complained about this to the Vinobanagar police station. The police have taken him to custody on charges of forceful conversions and they have also booked him under illegal construction of a building in Bommanakatte area.

A case has been registered against the accused under IPC Sections 417 (cheating), 295 (a) (whoever, with the intention of wounding the feelings of any person or of insulting religion of any person are likely to be wounded, or that the religion of any person is likely to be insulted, there by commits any trespass in any place of worship).

Not that long ago, representations were made to CM against anti-conversion law and denying such thing ever happened. We had many who commented here joining the chorus. Conversion attempts are rampant although not overtly. Law is needed badly.

Sad news are emerging from Karnataka once known as most progressive minded state. If the family in crisis has approached the Pastor and he advises sick Girl to pray to Jesus, how can the act be termed as forcible conversion? Root cause of many sicknesses and depression is mental attitude, so many people are getting healed due to faith. Are we not asking foreign delegates to apply Tilak and visit Temples? Can that also not termed as forcible conversion in the same yard stick? Is preaching of Hare Rama Hare Krishna all over the world not forcible conversion? Is marketing products / services forcible conversion? Fair competition is always necessary. We do then fine others do then sin? Its nothing but abusing the law and high handed approach to suppress the rights enshrined in the constitution.

Now onwards the whole Karnataka government, politicians, police and officials will be fully occupied only with conversions, hijab, cow slaughter, love jihad, muslim, Christian, cow, beef, temples and statues. For anything and everything else next government has to come to power. Until then just wait, watch and enjoy!

No forceful conversion has taken place here and the people who approached the pastor have not yet converted to Christianity. It’s only pastor’s suggestions and possible cure for thier child’s disease. How any police complaint could be filed and how the police can take the pastor into custody before any offence has been committed?. It’s upto the parents to take or reject pastor’s advice. No forceful conversion. It’s again a fabricated story with a drama enacted without a climax.

If that pastor wants to help someone, he can give/arrange financial support, or else he can give some moral support to face / overcome difficulties. But here, he is taking advantage of the situation, I think so.

The locals complained. Did the family complain? If it was forced conversion the family would have complained. Looks like the family went to him in hope the child would be cured.

Police have adequate time to apprehend the Pastor in response to bogus allegations filed by jealousy people. They don't have time, however, to file a complaint against the Holy place attackers and rapists. They received a call from the higher Authority telling them not to register any complaint without permission.
