Mangaluru: VVIP culture at airport - ordinary passengers suffer discrimination

Daijiworld Media Network- Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Feb 7: In most of the airports in India, it is the vehicles that have separate routes for entering the terminal and exiting. However, at Mangaluru airport, the vehicles, after offloading the passengers, have to take a U-turn to exit. This is not only disturbing the traffic movement here but also causing inconveniences to the ordinary passengers. However, this is not the only reason. The special treatment meted out to the VVIPs is also a prime cause of inconvenience to the aam admis here.

When there are multiple vehicles, passengers are compelled to get down some distance away and take their luggage to the entry point.

If separate roads are marked for entry and exit, this problem can be avoided. People cannot take their luggage in trolleys from the exit gate because VVIP vehicles and security vehicles are parked there. The gunmen and followers of these VVIPs will be present here. The passengers cannot take their trolleys out. They have to either wait till the VVIP vehicle leaves or physically carry the luggage.

The vehicles are forced to take U-turn after the passengers disembark citing security concerns. Barricades have been placed to stop the vehicles. A passenger, Anand Kumar, says this problem has to be addressed first. Another passenger says that it is wrong on the part of the airport authorities to have reserved the parking space to pick up VVIPs right on the road used by passengers. Further picking them up at the arrival gate is also wrong, he added, citing that most of the passengers will be carrying heavy luggage.

Responding to the concern, the airport officials say that development works have been undertaken at the airport and in future, the arrival gate will be parallel to the parking lot. After that is done, the vehicles can directly pick the passengers and the current problem will be addressed, they claim.

We are a democracy, politicians and civil servants are supposed to be at the service of the people. Even our PM calls himself a chowkidar and fakir though this is highly debatable. In India it’s the opposite. It is high time this practice has to stop but unless people wake up and protest nothing is going to change.

Our priority is one and only cow. Let taxpayers go to hell. This is attitude of elected reps. They have enough time for non essential issues, viz, renaming circles, roads , cow shelter, hijab , conversion and daivastanas. Nothing can expect from so called unpad reps and gobar voters .

The ideal way is to have free flow of vehicles at deparure point with maybe 2 minutes of waiting time. Here the vehicles are forced to take U turn. The arrival passengers are made to wait at the unplanned basement parking lot which is in chaos at any major flight arrival. The officials of the airport somehow are happy with delay caused by traffic jams at the parking lot and thereby charge the vehicles which have managed to drop/pick the passengers in the stipulated free period of 10mins.

The lift is a disaster , hardly one trolley can go in and there is no alternate route except the stairs and escalator . How can a person with luggage go down from stairs or escalator . So many people waiting for lift blocks the entrance of exit point . Pity that these things have not come to the attention of Airport Director . Why passengers are charged airport convenience fee on the tickets ? Instead Airport must provide inconvenience fee to the passengers .. MP’’s and MLA’s are waste bodies . All grants and projects are going to Gujjus .

Mangalore airports drop and pick up point is totally wrong concept: after dropping taxis has to take a U-turn in a single way in between barricades and left over trolleys , same way when taxies coming to pick up a passenger they have to come opposite direction and again take a U-turn after picking up passengers. these is directionless method used from more than 10 years , they will never improve only 3rd party is making money from Mangalore Airport.

VIP culture in India means MP's, MLA's, all government officials especially Police officials, and even judicial officers. If these people keep flouting the laws, what justice can common man expect? There is a VIP Lounge in all airports and all these government officials use it at taxpayer's expense. Unless the general public insist that all those who use VIP lounges pay for it, all these kind of nonsense will happen.

Mangalore airport other than the new glass facade is what it was decades back, an improved bus stand / railways station. Today with the VIP culture be it a Politician or a Chota sarkars Aadmi - The common pax is made to suffer, as in other international airports , other than the pax or if he is elderly / sick nine should be allowed. All the chamchas following the politician or burecrat should be asked to give their guru a grand send off 50 meters from the main entrance. High time we got together and elect people who gel with us aaam admee....

Our Mangalore airport only is a disaster. All are arrogant. Anyone traveling by air india express is treated cheap. When you arrive only one lift to go down with luggage. People coming to drop passenger is seen blocking all ways ..(especially passenger coming from Kasargod one passenger 20 people to drop &all 20 people blocks the way.) . Departure at security only one screening kept ..CISF they don't know how to respect passengers. They treat everyone like terrorists. I prefer landing in Blore airport & depart Bangalore airport & travel by train or bus to Mangalore & from Mangalore . At least Domestic formalities are done faster than International. There is no separate Q for web check-in passengers .SO what is the use of web check-in in if it takes the same time for check-in formalities
