Udupi: Hijab row - Minister Angara keeps mum on district administration's failure

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (HB)

Udupi Feb, 8: "My stand on Hijab row is clear. A uniform means there is should not Be any difference in the dress code. That is why a uniform is prescribed in the colleges," said District in-charge minister S Angara.

Reacting to media persons on Hijab versus saffron shawl dispute in colleges on Tuesday, February 8, Angara said, "Students should abide by the uniform policy. Recently the government had passed an order also in this regard. All the colleges should follow them. Rules are the same for all colleges be it private or government. All colleges should follow certain code. There is no question of Hijab or saffron."

Angara added that there was no need to such conflicts among students for political gains.

He refused to answer whether it was a failure on the part of the district administration in maintaining law and order in Udupi.

Minister Angara was here to attend a review meeting of the Karnataka Development Programmes held at Zilla panchayat meeting on Tuesday.

He received 13 major complaints, of which more were on problems concerning National Highways, street lights on them and underground drainage facility. These issues will be discussed in parliament session, Angara assured.

'I have noticed that government funds are not utilised properly by the department in many government programmes. I have strictly instructed the department concerned to utilise those grants by March. None of the government grants should get lapsed because of delay in planning", he asserted.

"About 70 percent of the government programmes were implemented and 30 percent are pending. I will take immediate action for its implementation," he assured.

Deputy commissioner M Kurma Rao, Udupi Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr Naveen Bhat were present.

In my opinion , the students should have been wise enough to understand that they are made a scapegoat by their own religious sentiments and traditions..there is no surprise that politicians thrive on these sentiments....by keeping religion aside lets think about it from a practical and rational perspective... does wearing a hijab especially with the face covered, veil, shawl, lungi, gown etc etc make any sense in an educational setup or workplace or public gatherings, etc? Don''t you think wearing a veil and gown (by nuns), hijab, shawl, lungi, etc etc is an hindrance to your own security? its a different matter whether it is comfortable clothing or not....

India has gone to criminals. Winston Churchill's profecy proving true. India will be ruled by scoundrels. Now it is absolutely true. We don't need external enemies to destroy India. We have enough internal enemies that is our beloved politicians who can go to any extent to get votes.

Peace lover..is it wrong to remember Churchill's prophecy? What type of leaders we are choosing now? Look at Mangalore MP, Udupi MP and your own Karkal MLA. Look at Karkala road especially road going to Karkala market? We always blame Pakistan for vote bank. In reality what is happening. Everything happening at the right time that is just before elections. Phulwaama, now hijab suffron shawl......Hope you are wise enough to understand what I am saying.....

Upto now I was thinking Angara was a bit more matured, reasonable and a gentleman but he too turned out to be completely communal. At the end he too has to protect his chair. Constitution, secularism and communal harmony are only meant for the books and speeches.

Huge failure of the local administration and the State Government. Deputy commissioner M Kurma Rao, Udupi Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr Naveen Bhat and MLA should step down if they have any shame left. They are accountable for this mess and should be held accountable. Such low caliber administration should be thrown out of the window.

You are right Agnes. The hijab is a age old tradition. But its alright if other students wore a shawl. But wearing a shawl and provoking the hijab wearing students clearly shows whats the mind set. But from ages ago anyone going to shabarimale also used to wear the black lungi and go to college. It was all fine then. We were all good friends. But this is a dirty agenda of the rss and other right wing outfits along with the bjp govt forcing their dirty ideology amongst the students. Unfortunately this mindset has already destroyed the sanctity of tue institutions and tur students and will take a generation to change.

Entire country itself. Any nation where it's minorities are targeted without reasons automatically come into the limelight of the international media. Razing down prayer centres, dictating what people should wear or should not wear are all even Hitler did not practice. The latest developments and also the fact of the revelation that 11,000 crores were collected in the PM cares find but only 3,000 cr utilised just shows that this is all an organised way of making this amazing country weaker by ruining it's diversity and looting whatever is remaining. The British did the same and fled, same is going to repeat.

Finally it is proved that ‘Sabka saath, sabka vikaas’ was absolutely a fake, hollow and cheap statement. Whether it is anti cow slaughter, or anti conversion and hijab controversy, bottom line is harassment of minorities.
