Puttur: Hindus stop Okuli procession to pay respect to Late Hasanabba

Daijiworld Media Network – Puttur (MS)

Puttur, Feb 13: At a time, when even students are in hammer and tongs with each over Hijab and saffron shawl, the Hindus here displayed an exemplary act of communal harmony by pausing their Okuli procession in Uppinangady to allow the funeral procession of renowned cloth merchant of the city Hasanabba passing by the same way. The crowd immediately split to the two ends of the road and paid their last respects to Hasanabba.

The Okuli procession was in progress as a precursor to the car festival of Sri Laxmi Venkataramana temple in Uppinangady on February 11. The procession was accompanied by a band and trumpets. Renowned cloth merchant of Puttur, Haji Hasanabba had died on the night of Thursday, February 10.

His funeral was passing through the same street as that of the Hindu procession. As the crowd in the procession saw the funeral procession of Haji Hasanabba arriving, they immediately stopped the band and music, spraying of colours and showed respect to the late merchant.

In the midst of many misunderstandings that are prevailing in the coastal districts between Hindus and Muslims, many humane customs still remain intact and love towards one another is still alive.

Appreciation is pouring from several quarters over this noble gesture of the Sri Laxmi Venkataramana temple devotees when the communal scenario is volatile in the state.

At a time when communities are being divided by selected organisations, politicians, leaders & media, this act shows that common people doesn't want any division. Don't fall victim of communal party or organization or leaders else the life will not be as beautiful as this incident and gesture.

Still hindus and muslims were iving in brotherhood. Only politicians are communal and brainwashing youths after distributing shawls to disrupt peace and harmoney.

My big salute & standing ovation to both communities. You are the real colours of our society. At the time when the students shown disrespect to communal harmony in other parts of the region you shown what is the communal harmony. Let it continue in my country & let people respect each other. This noble gesture has come purely from people as there was no time for politicians to involve and stir up the event and dishonour the mortal remains of the diseased. All people are innocent till they have been provoked by the politicians. Sympathies to the aggrieving family and RIP to the departed soul.

No communal paint needed. Respect to a human is supreme and beyond religious belief. Lata Mangeshkar passed away, nobody around the world were sad because she was Hindu, but because she made contributions that is without parallel and everyone from different religious belief around the world grieved her passing. OK, I am biased towards name of Hasanabba....I know a person whom I regard supreme as well as my late father, probably that's why. Namaskaras and OM Shanthi to the latest Hasanabba I came to know through Daijiworld.
