Kundapur, Jan 5: While the states like Goa and Kerala are concentrating more on the developments related to tourist sector, in Karnataka the tourism sector is much more neglected.

Goa secured the honor of being called as ‘heaven of tourists’, likewise Kerala is labeled as ‘Gods own country’. In both the states tourism has been given utmost priority and it has been a source of income for many. Though Karnataka possesses splendid tourist spots and over 350 kms of long seashore, there have been very little efforts to preserve it.

The book published by state tourism department describes Karnataka’s tourism plans in which the state has been divided to various zones and developmental possibilities in each zone have been mentioned. It has also called for private- public collaboration. Many projects details are also printed in the book. But unfortunately the plans are limited to the book alone and very few of them are realized so far.

The pristine beauty of ‘Maravanthe beach’ is one such tourist spot which is losing its glory solely due to apathy of concerned department. Though many developmental projects to improve the beach have been proposed they have not touched the endless sand of Maravanthe beach.

Just 4 years ago the district administration had drafted a plan for the development of both Malpe and Maravanthe beaches. As Malpe is very close to the district center it was developed to some extent.

But Maravanthe failed to see  the development. A blueprint was prepared in view of developing a site belonging to tourism department and a parking space near to beech. Hefty amount of Rs 80 lac also was released to tourism department to carry out the work swiftly.

Nirmithi Kendra was assigned the responsibility of completing the work, last year some advance money was also released. But the same condition still prevails there. The condition of the earmarked parking space is also pathetic. Once plantation department planned to have a full-fledged garden, garbage bin, water tank, water fountain, but now even electricity pole is not in working condition. A lavatory which was built for tourists’ convenience is now turned as the property of others.  The landscape is also marred by Plastic bottles and waste materials making it look untidy.

However it is an unanswered question as to why the developmental projects have not been implemented at the beach eventhough the required money was already released for the readied project.

With all these apathy Maravanthe beach’s glory is still kept in dark.

I agree with Mr. Vijay P we cannot depend on the Govt. always, which is very good in giving excuses and avioid doing work for the betterment of public. We all should realise and stick to the fact that charity and cleanliness should begin from our own homes first. Then only our Country will be the best to live in.

Well, everyone is busy blaming the government for the sorry state of our parks and other public places. I request all of you to think and write. Look, key word of our culture was "SHUDH". We have totally forgotten this word we throw thrash everywhere. Even our houses are not clean. The roadside outside of our houses looks pathetic. We need to open our eyes and start working instead of just complain. We can have some youth volunteers cleaning public places thus teaching them some responsibility. School children should be educated towards their responsibility as a citizen. Together we can make this place heaven again.

Dear Aishwarya..you took me back to 2009.I visited Maravante and Ottinane Beach (half an hour from Maravante) with my friends. We stayed in Turtle Beach Resort Maravante. It is a wonderful resort. From there we went to Ottinane Beach, which is a PARADISE of Karnataka.Unfortunately no one knew about it. Our Government, our people ..Government built very small tourist bunglaw there. It is like bombed Afghanistan house.I took some photos there.Daiji published it on 20th Oct'2009(Maravante-Unspoilt,Unique Beach). After seeing those photos lot of people asked me about it.Even UAE's main English daily Khaleej Times published one of the photos under the heading "Breathtaking Beauty Maravante".But I gave image of only one side of Maravante and the other side was shown to the world by Aishwarya Beejady.

It is a shame for Karnataka. Money is spent in private pockets. In Someshwar beach there is not even
one toilet. I have approached the local Panchayat to allot a place and
I would build 2 toilets myself for the common people and also employ someone to up-keep the place. Upto now they have not shown any interest. Karnataka was once apon a time a beutiful place but now it is full of garbage. What a shame.

Three Cheers to 'star' reporter Aishwarya Beejady for the fascinating & compelling pictorial story on a most beautiful scenic beauty of Karavali. Pictures are simply eye catching & memorable.

Hat’s off to Daijiworld for posting this ‘sting’ article on the government’s & local leader’s apathy towards this glorious beach resort.

Hailing from Bijoor, passing through this glorious stretch of land between a cool Soupanika river & vibrant Arabian Sea, I have been one of the great admirers of this inspiring place on earth. I have hailed & narrated the glory of Maravanthe throughout my life in various platforms.

However after seeing the state it is in now I am dumbstruck the way this is managed by the State & Central Govts.

Its time now start a campaign in various social networks to make the authorities wake up to this call by Daiji & make them kneel before the public outcry to save this Nature’s Master piece..

    HAIL MARAVANTHE & SAVE MARAVANTHE

It is a matter of great regret that a cite like Maravanthe beach has received little or no attention by the concerned department. If a some one visits this beach he will realize that it is a HAVEN. If this place of natural beauty is developed it can even attract international tourists thus serving as a source of income for the government. If the concerned department is not capable of handling this resort they can at least call for tenders and lease the place out to enterprising people to develop it and turn it into a money spinning tourists center.

That is why our state has been looted by all neighbouring states. In near future there will be more outsiders than Kannadigas. Since our Tourism minister is not from our state he is busy in illegal mining activities. If this continues in few years our state tourism places will look like mining areas. Hope Kannadigas will wake up now otherwise it will be a real shame for Karnataka.

I always admired this place as one of the beautiest spots. All the tourism developmental plans drafted by Govt must have taken place in books to get the money released. We cant expect any genuine efforts from any govt to improve tourism. Private enterprneures should come forward in this direction. The highway, adjacent beach, backwaters, nearby hiltop all are very beautiful here.
