Bengaluru, Feb 26: Strongly condemning the State Congress leaders for resuming their Mekedatu padayatra, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday said everybody knows why the party is carrying out the padayatra and alleged that it was totally aimed at deriving political gains.

“The Congress leaders disrupted the State legislature session by staging dharna and now they want to play their political gains even outside,’’ he said speaking to media representatives in Vidhana Soudha.

Bommai said Congress party plays politics in everything and due to their political objectives carrying out padayatra part 1 and 2.

Asked if the restrictions will be imposed as the padayatra is entering the city, the Chief Minister said Covid norms are still in force. “It is the duty of everybody to follow the guidelines. Necessary action will be taken if needed,’’ he said.

Earlier, Shivamogga BJP MP BY Raghavendra called on the Chief Minster and requested Bommai to launch various developmental programmes in the district. Raghavendra also invited the Chief Minister to visit the district for launching the programmes.

Later, the Chief Minister held discussions with representatives of various organisations of trade and industry as part of the pre-budget consultations.

Bommai also held discussions with representatives of the different transport undertakings with regard to the pre-budget consultations.

If Mekedattu project is done it doesn’t exclusively flow water only into congress leaders houses. It will benefit thousands of people but BJP is opposed to helping people and hence all the excuses and ranting. The ruling party is disrupting the state assembly by not doing its duty and responsibility. BJP, you are answerable for your actions. Don’t try to get away by false accusations.
