Mandya, Mar 1: The rural police of Malavalli have arrested eight persons including Srikanth, son of former K R Pete MLA, K B Chandrashekhar, have been arrested relating to a case of murder.
The arrested persons are Srikanth (42), Abhishek (26), former gram panchayat member, Kumar (40), Manjunath alias Manju (23), Anand (24), Vajramuni alias Vicky (24) from Bengaluru, Puneeeth (32) and Shiva alias Somashekhar (37) from Hassan.
The body of Saleem (40) from Kollegal was found from the roadside. Manjunath, Vajramuni and Anand had surrendered in the rural police station claiming that they had committed this murder. Rural circle police inspector, A K Rajesh-led team intensified the probe and arrested five more.
It is said that main accused Srikanth had entered into an agreement to buy rice pulling pitcher (copper vessel which is believed to bring in riches to family that owns it) for Rs 500 crore and had given an advance of five lac rupees. On February 7, Srikanth had met Saleem near Ilawala, Mysuru. On that occasion, discussions on rice pulling pitcher aggravated and the two had fought. Saleem had died in the incident. Srikanth, who grew nervous, moved around various places with the body inside his car. At the advice of a police circle inspector, with the help of his friends, Srikanth had tossed the body near Panditahalli on February 9, it is claimed.
The friends of Srikanth along with Srikanth had contacted a police circle inspector who had earlier worked in K R Pete, and struck a deal with him for ten lac rupees and a brand new car. The police officer asked them to dispose of the body in a place within his jurisdiction and then the three accused to surrender, owning responsibility. But by mistake, the friends missed the jurisdiction by a few metres and the body was thrown in a place which fell under Malavalli rural police station limits.
The police circle inspector involved is likely to be questioned. Eight more are still at large, as a total of 16 persons are involved with this murder, it is gathered.
