Udupi, Mar 1: A man had fallen in love with a girl and married her. However, his mindset was peculiar because of which he kept torturing his wife. His wife has since lodged a police complaint. The husband however went absconding after coming to know of this. He was arrested on Tuesday March 1.

Pradeep Poojary from Koteshwar in the district is the accused in the case. The video footage in which he is seen harassing his wife has gone viral in the social media.

Pradeep had married Priyanka, with whom he was in love with, during October last year. Within four months of marriage, he attacked his pregnant wife and kicked her with his feet. As she escaped getting kicked in the stomach by her husband who also threatened to kill her and her child, she was hurt in the waist, she had stated in the complaint. A video clip of the said act was forwarded by him to Priyanka's parents, warning them that if they failed to give dowry, he would send her mortal remains to them. A video which shows him brushing cigarette butts against her body by way of dowry harassment was also seen in the video.

The complainant had also stated that her husband used to tighten grip around her throat to suffocate her, duly threatening her of murder if she failed to bring dowry. HIs father, Prakash Poojary used to encourage these acts.

He reportedly was demanding two lac rupees in cash and four sovereigns of gold in the form of dowry. As he relentlessly let loose his animalistic methods of torture against his wife, the wife complained to the police. The Kundapur police who received the complaint, launched a manhunt for accused and arrested him.
