Udupi, Mar 5: As part of the renovation of the Kadiyali Sri Mahishamardini temple, a new flagpole was brought in a huge shobhayathra from Jodukatte, Udupi here on Friday, March 4.
The huge flagpole carried in a grand procession was accompanied by traditional band sets, chanting shlokas, veda-gosha bhajan. Many mahila organisations also took part in the Shobhayathra.
Sri Vidyavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Kaniyur math launched the shobhayathra by performing Pooja to the flagpole. Nadoja Dr G Shankar, proprietor of Dr G Shankar family trust flagged off the procession.
Sri Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swamiji performed the Pooja to the flagpole at Kalsanka and blessed the event.
The procession began from Jodukatte and passed through Kavi Muddana road - Shirabeedu and Kalsanka road and then reached temple premises.
Raghupati Bhat, MLA Udupi, Dr Raviraj Acharya, Nagesh Hegde, president, temple renovation committee, Pramod Madhwaraj, former MLA, Raghavendra Kini, general Secretary, renovation committee, office bearers and hundreds of devotees were present.
The renovation work of the 1,200-year-old Kadiyali Sri Mahishamardini temple in Udupi is in full swing. In the previous year, the renovation activities had gained speed.
This is one among the renowned temples in Coastal area located in temple town Udupi. Sri Mahishamardini or Durga, Goddess of the Universe, possesses different qualities and it is believed that she is the most powerful Goddess as per Hindu belief system.
This is a 12 century old holy Durga temple. According to the Tulunadu’s folklore, Rama Boja, King of Tulunadu, established four Durga temples around Sri Anantheshwara temple. Sri Mahishamardini temple of Kadiyali in Shivalli, 2 miles west of Udupi, is one of them, Sri Mahishasuramardini temple in Bailoor, Udupi, Sri Kannarpaadi Jaya Durga temple, in Kannarpady, Udupi and Sri Durga (in the form of a Linga) temple in Puttur, Udupi are the other temples.
