Udupi: Hijab row – Youth assaulted, threatened with weapons

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (MS)

Udupi, Mar 6: A youth, who questioned the derogatory comments posted on a social media platform about Hindu activists, was assaulted and threatened with life by two youths of a different community in Saligrama here.

The victim is Prajwal, a resident of Brahmavar and the accused has been identified as Riyan from the same locality.

Reportedly, Riyan, younger brother of Ayaan, a friend of complainant Prajwal, was allegedly posting derogatory comments about Hindu activists on his WhatsApp status. Prajwal in his complaint has said that he had repeatedly told Riyan to refrain from such acts. But Riyan challenged Prajwal that he would continue to post derogatory comments, come what may, according to the complaint.

A couple of days ago when Prajwal was riding home on his bike along with his friend Sanjan, Riyan allegedly waylaid them. He along with two other youths reportedly picked a fight with Prajwal at Sastan toll gate.

Later Riyan and his friends went to Kundapur in car. In a little while, while Prajwal was riding pillion with his friend near Saligrama bus stop, Riyan and one of his friends, stopped the bike again. One of Riyan's accomplices was allegedly holding an iron rod in his hand and another sitting inside the car brandished a sword and threatened to kill Prajwal.

A case in this connection has been registered at the Kota police station as per the complaint filed by Prajwal.

Anil, MP......... I lived in a society in heart of Mangalore city where almost all are Hindu tenants there. At least 50% of them are Brahmins (as per government records). But I never saw anyone sleeping outside the house. I am basically from a village in Udupi district, there too I lived till my age 25. I never saw anyone sleeping outside the house. Either in the society that I live and in my village everyone is pregnant all their life or may be your are telling lie...
