Mangaluru: Catholic Sabha Bondel Unit celebrates Women’s Day

Mangaluru, Mar 6: The Catholic Sabha Bondel Unit had organised Women’s Day celebrations on Sunday, March 6.

The programme began with a prayer song by the church choir members. Catholic Sabha President Stephen D'Silva welcomed the guests on to the dias and also all those present for the function.

The programme was inaugurated with lighting of the lamp by Fr Andrew Leo D'Souza, chief guest Melrida Rodrigues, Fr Rupesh Tauro, Parish Council vice president Reginald D'Souza, secretary Stevan Noronha and Sujay D'Silva, convener for this programme.

Fr Andrew Leo, spiritual director, in his message to the women said, "In recent days, women are being treated equally and we have reached a height where ladies are the pillars of society. Every woman has her own capacity to achieve her goal in her own way and there are examples right here today." He congratulated every woman who was present on the occasion.

Women achievers of St Lawrence Parish, Bondel were felicitated on the occasion by the dignitaries.

Catholic Sabha central treasurer and chief guest Melrida Rodrigues praised the Sabha for organising the programme. Speaking on the occasion she said, "In olden days, women lacked many of the legal rights. Women should be able to live without fear of gender-based violence. Women have more patience than men. So they can do multiple tasks at a time. Whether a woman in your life is just starting a business, has an established business or runs a sole operation, support her in any way you can. Compliment women on their outstanding qualities."

Wilfred Alvares introduced resource person Dr Caroline D'Souza (consultant neuro-psychiatrist) who spoke on  Women-Multiple Roles & Health Issues, Risk factors of Depression , Anxiety Level, Social Phobia and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder..

Dr Venkatramana Kini (radiation oncologist). took up a session on cancer and explained about its prevention. "Cancer is a broad term. It describes the disease that results when cellular changes cause an uncontrolled growth and division of cells", he said.

Another session was taken by Dr Savita Lasrado (consultant ENT) on Thyroid Awareness, Thyroid Disorder: Symptoms, Causes & Prevention.

Lancy D"Cunha, president, Indian Catholic Unit and City Varado president Wilfred Alvares were present on the occasion.

Sujay D'Silva, convener of the programme, proposed a vote of thanks, The programme was well compered by Pamela Alvares.
