Mangaluru, Mar 7: Catechism Day was celebrated meaningfully at the Holy Rosary Church, Alangar on March 6.
Fr Anil Fernandes, director of Canara Communication and Vocational Centre was the main celebrant of the Holy Eucharist and chief guest of Catechism Day celebration. He preached on the importance of vocations to the priesthood and religious life. He also gave a brief talk to the parents and children on how to nurture vocations and heed the call of God.
Children presented a beautiful Bible and faith based cultural Programe prepared in three groups, in their own initiatives.
As many as 75 children were awarded with prizes for securing above 80 marks in the Catechism exam. In all, 18 children got prizes for writing highest pages of Bible copy, 17 Students got prizes for writing highest Bible quotations during the year, 19 students secured prizes for preparing good record book, 23 children of class 1 to 3 were given prizes for attending Catechism classes regularly and 13 teachers were give a gift of gratitude for dedicating themselves to teach Catechism the whole year.
Family members of Catechism students, Parish Pastoral Parishad members, Vocation Commission, Bible and Catechism Commission members witnessed the programme.
Sumptuous breakfast in the morning and ice cream at the valedictory was served to all.
Santhosh Rodrigues, coordinator along with the teachers, Vocation Commission and Bible and Catechism commission had organized this programme.
Rajesh D'Souza, coordinator of commissions and Mable Lobo, secretary of PPP were present. Sr Helen Goveas proposed a vote of thanks.
